As was the case with above poster, you were only tested for Total T3 and Total T4, which are considered obsolete and of little value.
It's almost impossible to say, in your case, because both TT3 and TT4 are right at mid range. Some of the TT3 and TT4 will be bound by protein, so will be unusable. We need to know how much is not bound, in other words, how much is "free" to be converted (T4) or used (T3).
The only thing I can say for certain is that your TSH is actually higher than normal, because your lab is using an outdated range.
What symptoms do you have? Has your doctor prescribed the thyroxin for you?
I am 28 yr old lady with 60 kg weight and I am gaining weight continuously .Iam taking eltroxin 75mcg daily and on medication from last 15 yrs..Below is my thyroid result values. Kindly suggest what should I do to control my TSH. Will it affect my pregnancy
TEST NAME VALUE UNITS REFERENCE RANGE
TOTAL TRIIODOTHYRONINE (T3) C.L.I.A 100 ng/dl 60 - 200
TOTAL THYROXINE (T4) C.L.I.A 9.8 μg/dl 4.5 - 12.0
THYROID STIMULATING HORMONE (TSH) C.L.I.A 9.09 μIU/ml 0.30 - 5.5
Unfortunately, your docto has ordered tests that are considered obsolete and of little usefulness. Next time, ask him to order FREE T3 and FREE T4 instead of totals.
That being said, your TT4 is a little on the high side. Midrange is the rule of thumb for FT4, and yours is in the upper quarter. FT3, on the other hand is a bit low.
Do you have other hypo symptoms besides weight gain?
I am a 34 year old female
TEST NAME VALUE UNITS REFERENCE RANGE
TOTAL TRIIODOTHYRONINE (T3) 121 ng/dl 60 - 200
TOTAL THYROXINE (T4) 10.2 μg/dl 4.5 - 12.0
THYROID STIMULATING HORMONE (TSH) 1.76 μIU/ml 0.30 - 5.5
Comments : SUGGESTING THYRONORMALCY
and I have gained a lot of weight.I got my thyroid tests done last week.
What do the reports imply? Do I have thyroid thats leading to weight gain?
Your thryoid tests (except TSH) are "in range", but thyroid reference ranges are severely flawed for a number of reasons. FT4 often has to be midrange and FT3 upper half to upper third of range before symptoms go away.
With a TSH of 73.57, you should have no trouble having your doctor put you on thyroid meds, and I think it would make you feel a lot better.
hi Barb,
these are my thyro test results:
TOTAL TRIIODOTHYRONINE (T3) C.L.I.A 78 ng/dl (i'm told reference range is 60 - 200)
TOTAL THYROXINE (T4) C.L.I.A 4.6 μg/dl (i'm told reference range is 4.5 - 12.0)
THYROID STIMULATING HORMONE (TSH) C.L.I.A 73.57 μIU/ml (i'm told reference range is 0.30 - 5.5)
Ft3 CLIA method - 3.04 pg/ml ((i'm told reference range is 1.7-4.2)
Ft4 CLIA method - 0.81 ng/dl (i'm told reference range is 0.70-1.80)
Comment in the report says : Suggesting Thyronormalcy.
Can you please help in understanding what could be wrong? I generally feel colder than people around me (requiring to raise temperatures of Aircon even when most others maybe comfortable) and I have generally high metabolism rate .. height 5.6 or so and wt. 65kgs or so ..
My T3 is 92, T4 is 7.5 and TSH is 3.11
Result : Suggesting thyroid Normalcy.
Please suggest

What do the reports imply?I am not taking Remeliyn D and D-Rise Sache once a week as i had low Vitamin B12 and D?
TEST NAME VALUE UNITS REFERENCE RANGE

TOTAL THYROXINE (T4T4 test) 8 μg/dl 4.5 - 12.0
THYROID STIMULATING HORMONE(TSH) 4.26 μIU/ml 0.30 - 5.5

Was 100 mcg your starting dose? That's a lot to start out on.
Hair loss is a symptom of being hypo and should stop when your thyroid hormone levels are adequate.
Yes, my doctor suggested me to take thyroxin 100mg tabs once daily. and at present i'm in Vitamin D deficiancy dut to some reasons and i'm facing lot of hairfall. apart from this i'm not having any symptoms. i'll keep my body fit by doing some physical exercises daily.
Hi Barb,
I am 22 Years Male. my wait is 60. Thyroid profile results are as below.
Does this affects me? What would you suggest?

TEST NAME VALUE UNITS REFERENCE RANGE
TOTAL TRIIODOTHYRONINE (T3T3) 135 ng/dl 60 - 200
TOTAL THYROXINE (T4T4 test) 8.9 μg/dl 4.5 - 12.0
THYROID STIMULATING HORMONE(TSH) 4.14 μIU/ml 0.30 - 5.5

Unfortunately, you were tested for Total T3 and Total T4, rather than the Frees, so your results are not the most useful. Do you think you can get tested for the Free T3 and Free T4?
That said........ your T4 is approximately, mid range, so that should be good. The problem is that some of that will be bound to protein, which causes it to unusable, which is why we need to know the Free T4, because that will tell us how much is actually available to be converted to T3.
Your T3 is in range, but is very low in the range, and again, some of that will be bound by protein and unusable, so knowing the amount that's Free would tell us exactly what is available for cellular use.
Your TSH is in the range listed by your lab, however, AACE has recommended, that the range for TSH, be lowered to 0.3-3.0. If using the newer range, your TSH would be high.
Considering your low T3 and higher TSH, I'd say there's a good chance you could be hypothyroid and that could lead to the weight gain.
