Regrowth of thyroid

I was diagnosed papillary thyroid cancer in 2006. I had total thyroidectomy and rai. Ultrasound in beginning march 14 revealed nothing in thyroid bed. Repeat ultrasound two weeks ago revealed whole new thyroid gland with a mass on each side. Ent surgeon doesn't want to perform surgery due to risks and wants me to see endocrinologists. the earliest appt i could get was 5 aug. I go for fna biopsy in two weeks. Should I wait till August? Also ent surgeon wants to leave regrowth and both masses in if its benign. Should it be left in given history of thyroid cancer? Someone please help! I don't feel the doctor has a sense of urgency and I'm uneasy with leaving it in even if its benign.

This looks like remnants of thyroid tissue left after surgery (to preserve voice nerves, perhaps), which was later destroyed by RAI. The recurrent cancer does not look this way (according to the literature); it presents itelf as abnormal lump evolving from lymph node.

Ultrasound reads thyroid tissue observed. Right lobe 1.1 x 0.5 x 0.5 cm. left lobe 1.1 x 1.3 x 0.4 cm. isthmus is .2 cm in thickness. The visualized thyroid tissue is homogeneous in echotexture with no nodule identified. Small thyroid gland present.

The answer for your question depends what biopsy will show.
Can you post an ultrasound report?

It's definitely there. I go for fna biopsy in two weeks. I'm still confused if I should leave it in or not?
