Treatment - Best Option

I was just wondering how saw Radioactive Therapy is for treatment of grave's disease.  I was recently diagnosed with hyperthyroid and then told it was "Grave's Disease".  My blood pressure is high, so they put me on meds to help because my breathing was getting bad and I had the shakey hands (still do).  Anyway, the doctor is recommending radioactive therapy and I am very leary of this.  Would surgery be safer???  I really don't like the sound of surgery either, but I just want to go the safest route for me.  Thanks!
