Did you have the RAI done?
Thanks for your response! So, even if the thyrogobulin test says zero, you think there still could be a hiding cancer cell present? Just gave blood for this test yesterday and will know first of week.
My surgery was on 7-9 and after post op visit, the surgeon went ahead and ordered the RAI treatment for 8-20. I went back to the Endro yesterday to touch base and he was kinda suprised this was done before the blood test for the thyrogobulin. He ordered that. I don't know which one to believe. But the Endro said he would talk with the Surgeon and Radiology and get it all straight for me.
I don't want to do the RAI if I don't have to, but there was pappilary in both side of thyroid and in (what they called a 'giant') lymph node on one side. I really don't think the test will read zero, because of the extensive amount, but wondered if it did. The Endro is saying the radiation "could possibly" lead to luekemia, so he doesn't want to do it unless it is absolutely necessary.
I really have been upset this week and kinda confused about this, mainly because I got hold of a 'girl' in the surgeon's office that tried to tell me all about everything and she knew 'absolutely nothing' about any of it. She had me so agravated I could of gone through that phone before I hung up!! lol It was like trying to carry on a conversation with the a radio. You keep trying to tell them something, but they keep saying things completely unrelated to what you are asking. And they talk all over you. Frustrating!!!
In my opinion I would have it done. If the lymph node had pap the tumor most likely was not encapsualted. All it takes is one cell. I would have it done .. get a few opinions but that is where I'd be leaning.
I had 2 very small, encapsulated micro paps found insidental to two larger benign nodules removed 1/07 .. in my case RAI was on the fence due to size, incidence and no lymph involvement.
