Twitches and tremors

I have had hypothyriodism since 2002.  I have had the occasional twitching in my face every since then.  For the last couple of years I have a twitch that makes me look like I am shaking my head no all the time.  I never noticed it until people started bringing it to my attention.  As time has gone on, it is getting worse and strangers are even asking me about it.  My son asks me why I shake my head no all the time.  It has gotten embarassing b/c everyone says something about.  Now it seems to be getting worse and I can feel my head jerk from time to time now.  My hands, legs and arms are joining in on it too now.  My hands have tremor to them.  It is not constant but often.  My legs and arms are doing the same thing but not as bad.  Could this all be related to my thyriod or could soemthing else be going on?

Yes, that's correct, calcium levels are important too..... ask for  your vit D too. Low calcium and low potassium can be causes of Twitches and tremors.

I went to the dentist today.  He told me something interesting that may explain some of the problems I am having. He asked me if I was having problems with my calicium levels again. (When I had my 2nd thyroid surgery My parathyroid glands were damaged.  I had to take prescription strength calcium supplements for it for a long time.  I was having muscle spasms and passing out. My levels stabalized and I was took off of the calcium pills long ago) Anyway, he said that my teeth were showing signs of calcuim difficiency and put me on a prescription toothpaste for it now.  I think that if my teeth are showing the signs, then maybe my tremors are related to it.  I go to have more blood work done in December.  Maybe I should mention it to the endo when I go.

I think you should ask for your potassium levels............., mean while you can eat some bananas and see if your symptoms get better (rich in potassium). You can also take some magnesium.

I am taking Synthroid @ 300mcg right now.  I had my blood work done about 6 months ago after I had my daughter.  I am scheduled to have more done in a 3 weeks.  As for as I know, I think my hypo is under control.  I don't feel like it is out of whack.  I don't know about my potassium levels though.  I just know that is really begining to affect me.  I am dropping things more frequently. Sometimes I am afraid to hold my daughter when I stand up in case I have one of those episodes and drop her.

I think it's a neurological problem but you should go to a neurologist to see what is causing it.What kind of meds are you taking ? is you're hypothyroidism under control?, what about your potassium levels?

I'm sorry that I don't have an answer for you, but have you discussed this with your doctor?
What does he/she say?
