VERY high TSH - Interested in range information

I am having trouble finding out range information on the net regarding TSH levels.  I have taken synthoid for several years and occasionally have to adjust the dosage.  I know what a level TSH is but at one point had a level of 32.5 - which was treated by adjusting the dosage.  However, due to recent HORRIBLE symptons, knew I needed to have it checked again (3 months earlier than my scheduled check).  It was at 85.8 which scares me to death after doing what little research I have.  I have been looking for ranges and what effects they may have on me at certain ranges (other than the obvious ones I have been feeling).  Last, how high can a TSH be and how close am I to it?

I have a tsh of 299.46 right now and I do feel like death. I have cheat pain and back pain, my body aches all over and my dr said he has never seen a tsh that high. I'm freaked out because I have to get chest x ray and blood work every 6 weeks. My dose has also been moved up to 175mg.

Dear Liz,
I have the same sx as you as far as heart and head explosions.  My TSH was 0.8 and I just got an email from the Doctor to count my pills.  She is every good, as you can see.  From your letter, it sounds to me like you should try a different Doctor.  I live near Boston, but, have found a very good endocrinologist here at home.  She emails me, and, I am free to do so also.  The symptoms are really devestating and my heart goes out to you.   Mary

Thank you for explaining the capital letters; typically, typing in all caps indicates that you're yelling and I didn't think that was the case, and it's much harder to read.

Many of us have nodules on our thyroid and they are nothing to be concerned about.  I can can see your concern, since you've got nodules other places, too.

Are you on a thyroid replacement hormone?  The symptoms you listed above are those of hypothyroidism and many of them might go away if you were properly medicated.  The fact that your doctor only does TSH, and not the actual thyroid hormones FT3 and FT4, tells me he's not well versed in thyroid conditions.  Many doctors who only test TSH, keep their patients ill for a very long time.

I'm curious - why are you bedridden?

It's too bad TSH is the only thyroid test being done, because that's a pituitary hormone, which only "indicates" thyroid hormone levels.  You need the actual thyroid hormone tests.  Those are Free T3 and Free T4.

That said, your TSH is too high and indicates a need for an increase in medication.

High WBC is common with any type of inflammation. The fatty liver disease is another issue.
