I got hypo diagnosed a few weeks ago. Where feeling werry bad. Shake, fatigue, nausea and more. Had a value of 6 something in the the test. The doctor wanted to take new samples after a week again. After a week my value was 12 something and I was diagnosed and started eat Levaxin, medicine 25mg. Still tyerd and weak. but dont alowed to higer the dose until next test. They want to take new samples first in mid-August. Done these samples several times. I have periods when I lose a lot of weight in a very short time. 10-15 kg and have suffering from extreme fatigue throughout the hole life. Since 2012 the samles hae been above the high side. Not very high. This did not the doctor think was something to worry about. How do I read the response/values and what should I look for? Where isthe limit values? What does 12 mean? How much does that values effekt my body? The doctor say something like: that was high and something else, i cant remember was maby litle to low an that was not good he sad. What was low? And what does that affekt?

That is correct. That was the TSH which stood at 12. Recognize it now when you whrite. The tests are made by doctors. They've done the usual and then made the 2 test the more sure. TSH was too high and the other T3/T4 "maybe" was rather low. What was too low they never told me more about exept that that something was below normal and the other abow. Do you know? I'm going to ask for the results.

Please if possible post your exact results and the reference ranges for all the tests you had done.

Given the numbers you were using for your results, the test you are most likely referring to is called the TSH test. This stands for; Thyroid Stimulating Hormone.  It is NOT a thyroid h ormone at all.  It is a pituitary gland (gland in your brain) hormone that is supposed to regulate and tell your thyroid gland to make more or less thyroid hormone.  Think of the pituitary being a thermostat and the TSH to be the signal the termostat sends to the furnace of your home.  The thyroid gland is the furnace.

When the TSH is high.  the pituitary is trying to tell the thyroid to produce more thyroid hormone.  Conversly when the TSH is low the pituitary is telling the thyroid that there is enough thyroid and to slow production of thyroid hormone.

Normal ranges for the TSH test are in the USA supposed to be about 0.3 to 3.0.  ALthough many laboratory's sill go up to a top of 4 or even 5.    So a test result of TSH being 12 is indicating that the pituitary is screaming at the thyroid to produce more thyroid hormone.  In other words you are low thyroid. And this is why you would need medicine because for some reason your thyroid gland is not able to produce the thyroid hormone that is needed by your body and needs to be supplemented.

I described to you the "perfect" scenerio. That is when the pituitary and the thyroid gland etc all are working as supposed to.  But every person is diffferent and the pituitary can mess up and things not work perfectly.  But it gives you the basics.

TSH is not a very good test because of all of the variables that can affect thyroid metabilism.  It is NOT even testing the actual thyroid hormones.  There are two thyroid hormones. T4 and T3. So you want to have these tested.

It gets further complicated in that there are two separate forms of each of the thyroid hormones.  Each hormone can be either floating in your blood free and unencumbered, or they can become attached to a protein.  Any thyroid hormone that is atached to a hormone is inactive and biologically useless and cannot be used by  your body's cells.  ONLY the FREE hormone is used by your body's cells.

So when getting blood drawn for sample, it is VERY important to SPECIFICALLY demand that the FREE T4 and FREE T3 be tested. These are the active and useful versions.  If "total T4" and Total T3" are tested instead, you will no idea what portion of the hormone is useful and what portion is tied to the protein and usless.
