Heard a story this morning about a dog w/thyroid that broke my heart

was having  a conversation with my insurance guy this morning and he was telling me his son has a dog that has a thyroid condition and when they have forgotten to give the dog it's medicine "for a while" he said it literally CANNOT even get up off the floor.

I went to bat for the Dog and begged him to tell his son not to do that and explained to him how painful it must be for the poor dog and possibly long term damage.

After what I've just been through this really broke my heart to even hear that someone would forget for that many of days to bring this poor dog to this point.  Just venting!

I just don't think they get it!!! I was telling him about my hypo bout and how crippling it was for me and in his understanding he began shaking his head and LAUGHING then told me about the dog.

I don't think he'd be laughing if it ever happened to him or to his son.

That is animal cruelty in my opinion and you should tell them so. My daughter was born without a thyroid gland and she is totally dependent on ME making sure that she gets her meds daily since she was 3 weeks old. She is now almost 10 and we have never missed a dose! It is a huge responsibility for someone to have, so if the son is not capable of remembering, and does not understand the importance of this, and does not take his responsibility seriously, then he needs to give the dog to someone who can and will do the best for this animal! Too sad!!!! (I'll take the dog, if need be)

Awww.. it's amazing how animals can suffer just like humans when it comes to illness but have no way of expressing it. Prayfully the son will realize how crucial the medicine and the disease is.
