I have thyroid cancer and have had five surgeries so far to get rid of it. Did the doctor do a biopsy on it?
No, no biopsy. He wants to wait 6 months to " see what it does". Does that make any sense?
Many of us, with Hashimoto's have nodules on our thyroid gland; typically, they are nothing to worry about. Apparently, there was nothing in the ultrasound that noted atypical characteristics of either the nodule or your thyroid. In that case, common practice is to wait 6 months and do another ultrasound.
Thyroid cancer is really quite rare and is, typically, one of the easiest to cure, by removal of the thyroid. I'm not sure what would have happened with shiningstar500, but her case is not the norm.
Did the endo do any blood tests? Hopefully, he would have done TSH, Free T3 and Free T4, along with thyroid antibodies, Thyroid Perxoidase Antibodies (TPOab) and Thyroglobulin Antibodies (TgAB). If any/all of those tests were done, please post the results and be sure to include reference ranges, which vary lab to lab and have to come from your own report.
Did the ultrasound indicate whether or not your thyroid was swollen/inflamed (goiter)? If it is, that could explain the feeling of fullness you have in your throat. Anxiety can also cause this.
What are your actual symptoms, other than the feeling of fullness in your throat?
Oops... I see that you said your thyroid is "enlarged"; that would mean swollen.. sorry I missed that the first time around.
Also meant to ask if you are currently on a thyroid replacement medication. If so, which med, what dose?
I am on 88 micrograms of synthroid right now. It has increased from 25 micrograms over the past few months.
Did the endo do blood work for TSH, Free T3 and Free T4? What about the antibody tests?
