Is it my thyroid?

I have been very tired for several months now. My neck is sore to the touch on the left side and also when I swallow. I noticed light spots that look almost like bruises in the area of my neck that is sore to the touch that seem to be getting worse over the last few weeks. I took antibiotics a couple of weeks ago for a throat infection but the pain on the left side remains. I do have a doctors appointment next Monday but I am looking for answers. HELP!

I take levothyroxine 88 mcg and I have at times also taken Cytomel.  It took about a year (sorry to say) to feel a lot better.  I do feel pretty good now.  I have developed anemia and vitamin D defiency that the doctors say is caused by thyroid problems.  I take iron and vitamin D supplements and it is getting better.  Some people feel better very quickly when they start medication, so hopefully you will too.  I hope all goes well.  I know how hard it is to feel like that.  I feel for you.

Thank you so much. I feel like crap right now and I am going out of town next week Thursday and hope I can get some help by then. What was your treatment and how long did it take to work for you?

I had similar problem and the doctor said it was actually an infection in the thyroid.  Turns out I have hashimoto's.  You will need to have thryroid blood tests to be sure.  Ask for Free T4 and Free T3 tests and antibodies tests as well.  A lot of doctors only test TSH and you need them all to get a proper diagnosis.  The front of my neck was very sore to the point that I kept my chin down all the time to try and alleviate the pain and was not even aware I was doing it.  I was very tired as well.
