after thyroid surgery

I HAD MY THYROID TOTALLY REMOVED AND MY DOC. PUT ME ON 50 MCG OF SYNTHROID. I AM SO BLOATED FEELING AND I FEEL LIKE I NEED A WATER PILL FOR BECAUSE MY ARMS AND LEGS FEEL REALLY TIGHT AND FUUL OF WATER. IS THIS NORMAL?

I know everyone is different, but that seems pretty low! Think I started off w/ 75mcg & now take 137mcg levothyroxine.

Do you have radiation therapy coming up? If I remember correctly, they started tapering me off levo, then switched me over to cytomel in anticipation of radiation w/ I-131.

Sounds like your dose is too low.  I had a tt and ended up on 250mcg of synthroid.  He started me slowly on 75mcg after surgery and it took 7 months to feel "normal".

I'm not sure if it's a side effect .. sounds like water retention of some sort ?  I'd call your Dr .. just to be certain not kidneys or something else going on?

How far post surgery are you?  I'm 8 months post TT, and I don't think I was ever on anything lower than 125 + Cytomel...  They usually start low and work up but 50 seems ultra low...
