also had Iron and TIBC IS 418 REF/INTERVAL 250 - 450, UIBC HIGH 381 REF/INTERVAL 150 - 375, Iron Serum 37 ref/interval 35 - 155, Iron Saturation 9 alert indicated ref/interval 15 - 55, and Ferritin,Serum 16 ref/interval of 13 - 150
Hi,my new results came and they read like this THS 3.160 ref/interval 0.450 -4.500 T4 result is 12.0 ref/interval 4.5 - 12.0 T3 uptake 25 ref/interval24 - 39 Free thyroxine 3.0 ref/interval 1.2 - 4.9. My next app is on Oct 8
With you having Hashi's, and hypo symptoms, as I suggested you should make sure to always get tested for Free T3 and Free T4 each time you go in for tests. Also get the Vitamin D and ferritin tests done. Vitamin D, B12 and ferritin levels need to be well up in the range. Just being in the low end of the range is not adequate. Also, be aware that the same holds for Free T3. The range is way too broad, since it was incorrectly determined. The functional range for patients without thyroid problems is more like the upper half of the current range. Members report that symptom relief for them required that Free T3 was adjusted into the upper third of its range and Free T4 adjusted to around the middle of its range.
Another thing to keep in mind is that a good thyroid doctor will treat a hypo patient clinically by testing and adjusting Free T3 and Free T4 as necessary to relieve symptoms, without being constrained by resultant TSH levels. Symptom relief should be all important, not just test results, and certainly not TSH results. So clinically treatment is something you should explore with your doctor also, to make sure he is willing to treat clinically.
When test results are available, if you will post results and reference ranges shown on the lab report, members will be glad to help interpret and advise further.
is total T4 and the diference interval is 4.5 - 12.0 Iam also taking B12 shots monthly due to vitamin deficiency
you didn't respond to the question about the T4. Is it Total T4 or Free T4? Also, what is the reference range shown on the lab report for the T4 result?
As for what it means, the first thing is that your doctor is out of date. I say that because of the test results for T3 Uptake and Free Thyroxine Index, (and the outdated range for TSH). Both of those tests are also somewhat outdated and not very useful compared to tests for Free T3 and Free T4, which are the biologically active thyroid hormones. Free T3 is the most important because it largely regulates metabolism and many other body functions. Scientific studies have also shown that free T3 correlated best with hypo symptoms while Free T4 and TSH did not correlate at all.
You need to get your doctor to test for Free T3 and Free T4 each time you go in for testing. Then you should be aware that Free T3 and Free T4 results in the lower half of their ranges are frequently associated with having hypo symptoms. Many of our members say that symptom relief for them required that Free T3 was adjusted into the upper third of its range and fFee T4 adjusted to around the middle of its range. I would also suggest that you request to be tested for Vitamin D, B12 and ferritin, since deficiency in these areas frequently accompanies hypothyroidism and also results in symptoms.
Hi. Iam taking levoxil 1. and have many symptoms, but also suffer from Major Depression that does not goes away. Iam always cold, irregular wacky periods, tired all the time, Iwas diagnosed with hashimotos and under active thyroid
Reference ranges vary lab to lab, so you have to report them with results. Is that FREE T4 or total T4? If "free" isn't specified (or "FT4"), it's total.
Are you on thyroid meds? Do you have hypo symptoms?
