I have been on synthyroid for six years or so. I believe it may contribute to insomia. A couple of years ago I tried Thyrolar II and felt much better, but I can't find  a "Doctor" that will prescribe it. No one will give a reason why they don't want me taking Thyrolar.  Has anyone ever had any experience with synthyroid causing insomia?

If you are looking to getting back to Thyrolar is may be tough. Thyrolar is usually more common in Canada and UK for treatment. Armour thyroid is more commonly known here and a little easier to get. SOunds like your doctor wants to keep you on the Synthetic though.

Some doctors are available and will be open to Armour - you just need to find one. Call around - and interview the receptionists. say you are looking for a doctor that is open to Armour meds. See what happens - this way if you find one and choose to go back - you have a physician to see,

I have seen some previous posts where people have said it is better for them to take it at night.

Try it and see, it can't hurt anything. Just make sure to take as always on an empty stomach.

I have always taken Synthroid first thing in the morning, I have never considered taking it at night.  Maybe the opposite would work better.

I also sleep better since starting on Synthroid. Hypo caused my insomnia and anxiety.
It effects everyone differently.
Do you take it in the AM? The peak dose occurs within several hours of ingestion.
What is your most recent TSH? If it is too low or above the range, that can cause insomnia as ifulpleze said above.

Hypothyroidism itself causes insomnia.  I am on synthroid and have no trouble getting to sleep although sometimes I wake up and can not get back to sleep.  You might visit a naturopath for the Thyrolar II.  They are much more into the natural stuff than the medical doctors.
