can't get thyroid meds

I was been treated with radio active iodine about 10 years ago.  Due to insurance problems I have been unable to get my thyroid medication for about 4 or 5 months now, is this going to cause health problems?  what can happen without taking the medication?

Ah, but Stella, I've got five scrips that need refilling right now. Today. Last Friday, actually, on three of them.

I owe the pharmacy close to two grand, and the checking account isn't looking so good.

Twenty bucks may be a big deal to this woman.

That said, I agree with you, and imedicmommy. Going without thyroid meds is BAD, and eventually will be life threatening.

First you have had a procedure that requires a need medication to live. The insurance company can not dictate whether to give you your meds or not. The doctor treating you is writing a Rx right?

If the doctor is not - sue him/her.

If you doctor is writing the script and the insurance company is not picking up the tab - that is another story. Thyroid meds are very inexpensive and patients can obtain the meds very easily. There are rebates/coupons available on major sites. www.synthroid.com and others.

Yes it will cause health problems. some fatal. -- get you script and refill it.

Try the social services department at your local hospital. They should be able to give some kind of referral or talk to your doctor. I know a doc who gets lots of free samples and gives them to his patients that don't have insurance. Almost every major city has a network of free and low income clinics for the uninsured and they can help with prescription meds as well. If you haven't taken your thyroid meds you can be hypothyroid with all the symptoms that go with it........
