Thyroid Question...

Hello all!!! I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism in sept 07. I did not take meds like I was supposed to because I moved and did not get another doctor. Well i moved back and started going to my normal Dr. again 3 months ago and she put me on levothyroxin. I take it like I am supposed to and it worked GR8 for the 1st month then it seemed to stop working, for the last two months it seems as though things are getting worse. Is that normal? I got my blood tested yesterday and I have a Dr. Apt on thursday. I have also had this problem with my voice being raspy and i have to cough kinda to get a little clearer voice, It is hard to swallow and even breath 80% of the time...Could this be because of my thyroid? I dont know much about thyroids so if anyone has any information you could help me with that would be great!!!
Thanks
Keisha

You are welcome. I have hypo also. It slows down the metabolism and makes it hard to lose weight. I am on other medications that affect the hopes of ever ending the weight problem. Hormones play a big part on hair loss and it could be your medication. Check the info on effects. I started using a shampoo called DooGro, found in the African American section. I don't know what is in it, but it has helped me. A pharmacist told my sister about it and she has had execellent results with her hair thickening. My hair has improved in the past two months. I am much older than you and needed to take hormone replacement. My eye brows even fell out. They are back. Thank God.

I have voice problems, but had a bad blow to the windpipe and was diagnosed years ago with one side of the voice box not closing. The dr showed it to me on a computer screen with the instrument that he held to the back of my throat. Recently, a dr said it was okay. The problem swallowing is suppose to be one of the signs of a problem with the thyroid from what I understand. Sometimes, I feel like I have a big ball of air, or something hard when I swallow and it hurts. I also have acide reflux which affects the esophogus and can cause problems swallowing if not treated and can be quite serious. I would think it is quite possible if the thyroid is swollen it would press on the throat enough it could cause breathing problems. Do you suffer with indigestion or heartburn? or have teeth decay especially on the back teeth? Feel food come back up into your throat a while after you eat or a burning in your throat and a sour taste? That can be from too much acid being produced and the muscle that closes the esophogus to the stomach not shutting off the flow of acid from the stomach. That can can cause big problems and should be addressed asap. It is acid reflux and gastronologist can help with that. Hope this helps. RJ
