completely confused

I have been dealing with hashimotos thyroiditis since age 15.  After my hysterectomy based upon lab results dr put me on 235 mcg levothyroxin and weight was coming off and I felt great, he reduced thyroid to 200 mcg and I feel terrible again.  Recent lab results reflect tsh of 0.09 and FT4 of 2.05.  Hair is falling out/breaking off, nails break off easily, skin dry, can't sleep.   Now he says reduce levothyroixn to 175.    Take triamterene for the swelling in my hands/feet.  Some days I am so tired.  Taking vitamin b12, vitamin d.  any recommendations?

I agree that symptoms rule; however, too many doctors don't see that.  I'm sure your doctor is reacting to the low TSH and is dropping your dosage based on that.

What's the reference range for the FT4?  Ranges vary lab to lab and have to be posted with results.  Your doctor left out the most important test and that's Free T3, which is the hormone actually used by the individual cells.

You need to contact him and make sure he understands how horrible you feel since decreasing your dosage and ask if he will increase it back to the 235 mcg.  If he refuses, you  may  have to find a different doctor.

Increase levothyroxine back to 235mcg. Symptoms rule. :)
