diseased looking thyroid with nodules...

My first post was about my ultrasound until i saw the endo dr.

test: sonographic gray scale and color doppler imaging of the thyroid gland.

The left lobe mes: 3.5 x 1.2 x 1.4 cm
the right lobe mes: 3.7 x 1.1 x 1.2 cm
the isthmus mes: 3 mm

within the mid right lobe, there is a heterogeneous solid mass that measures 8 x 8 x 6 mm.
adjacent, there is a smaller hypoechoic mass measures 3 x 2 x 4 mm.
there are no focal masses within the left lobe.
the echotexture is homogenous and normal.

cbc panel and tsh blood work were both normal.

the update:
i saw the endo he did a technetium 99m uptake scan ( different from the raiu scan for hot and cold) and found that my left is 1x larger than a normal lobe...and the right side is 2x more swollen than a normal size lobe... with the tumor not absorbing the solution. but the right thyroid lobe itself with the nodules in it is completely abnormal and looks completely disease ridden ( doctors words) he says he thinks i have hashimoto's or thyroiditius on top of having the nodules. he re ran my tsh and t4 and t3. if the level was a 3 or more he put me on meds til my need appt for the fna of the nodules.

results: blood work still normal.
how can that be that the entire lobe it self looks diseased and abnormal. and yet it's not under functioning or over functioning. if i had a thyroid disorder wouldn't my t4 at least show something??????????

MY THYROID 99MTC SCAN SHOWED MY THYROID WAS COMPLETELY ABNORMAL AND DISEASED. BUT ALL MY BLOOD WORK SHOW I'M FINE. I HAVE NO SYMPTOMS EITHER. IT'S THE SAME SIDE WITH THE NODULES IN THEM. IN REGARDS TO THE NODULES HE SAID IN 3 MONTHS WE WILL SEE IF THEY GROW. AND THAT IN REGARDS TO THE THYROID LOBE ITSELF THAT LOOKS DISEASED AND IS COMPLETELY ABNORMAL HE'D RE RUN MY TSH/FREE T4 AND TPO AGAIN... AND IF IT WAS A 3 OR MORE HE'D PUT ME ON MEDS TIL I GO BACK TO SEE IF THE NODULES GROW. BUT THEY WERE ALL PERFECT AGAIN.

SO DOES THAT MEAN THAT I DON'T HAVE HASHIMOTO'S THYROIDITIUS LIKE HE SUSPECTED AND HE SAID HE COULD BE WRONG ?
HE THOUGHT EVERYTHING WAS FINE TIL HE DID THAT 99MTC SCAN. AND THEN SAID WELL .. I STILL THINK YOU MIGHT HAVE HASHIMOTOS SO LETS RUN YOUR BLOOD AGAIN.

AS my surgeon told me in regard to my situations which was similiar to yours.  In most cases of an enlarged thyroid with nodules, the labs will be normal indicating that the thyroid function is normal..although some nodules are huge, it doesn't effect the function of the thyroid in most cases. Those who have thyroid conditions, such as Graves Disease or hypothyroidism may have abnormal labs indicating that the thyroid function is abnormal. In your case, you will have a fna biopsy to rule out any abnormal cells that can cause cancer. You may have discomfort in the neck area and possible soreness in the throat when swallowing due to the nodules. Most nodules will not cause any discomfort at all, which is why they can go undetected and discovered by an ultrasound.
