Is my thyroid regrowing?

In November of 2006 I had a right thyroid lobectomy because of a nontoxic multinodular goiter that was growing and affecting my swallowing and voice. I also have nodules on my left lobe. I have regular sonograms, but at the last one, two weeks ago, the technician told me I had a significant amount of tissue on my right side - he thought I was mistaken about having a lobectomy. When I saw my surgeon last week, he was quite surprised to learn there was a growth of tissue from the previous sonogram of approximately 2 mm (which was left to protect the nerve) to over 4 cm. What is growing there?  He doubled my medication from .5 mcg to 1.0 mcg, will redo the sono in three months and do another biopsy if there is continued growth. How worried should I be, and should I wait out the three months, or make an appointment with an Endocronologist?

Don't apologize. If I knew someone in Texas named mtkst13, I would have asked you the same thing. :)

Thanks for your comment. Yes, my voice did return to normal, I am a singer, and had to quit before the surgery - never knew what would come out.  I am now experiencing hoarseness again and can feel slight pressure in my neck when swallowing.

Hi, sorry I cannot answer your question but for what it's worth it seems like you have a legitimate reason to go see and endocrinologist - if only to give you a bit of peace of mind for the 3 months.  I am convinced stress has a huge amount to do with my thyroid issues since everytime I get stressed (which is a lot) my neck and shoulders get tense and that puts pressure on the nerves running out of the spine to the thyroid -- only my opinion, the allopathic dr's. don't agree when I suggest this, sorry for the digression.

I had a question though - did your voice return to normal?

Good luck.
