thyroid nodule

I was diagnosed with subclinical hyperthyroidism caused by graves in 2003.  They also discovered by ultrasound that  I have this nodule on my thyroid.  My blood tests remain normal.  In 2003 here are measurements in mm: 3 x 3 x 6mm and last week's measurements are now : 1 x 7cm x 1 x3 x 1 x 2.  These measurements mean nothing to me, has it grown much?

In the latest report it describes the nodule as a solitary hypochoic mass.  They want to perform biopsy.  Are these mostly benign?  Should I worry.  Is it because I'm 40 years old and the size of  it that biopsy is recommended?  My neck muscles are tender all around sides and back, could this mean it's cancerous?  I have no trouble swallowing.

Was this caused by pregnancy or more likely by radiation from x-rays performed by my orthodontist?

I look forward to hearing from you and thank you so much for taking the time with me, I really appreciate it.

Sincerely,

Chantal
