I am still so mixed on this dosage changing during the week??? I don't see how this benefits thyroid patients.
Synthroid is a T4 - it moves slowely in the system- so after you take the higher dose - it shouldn't have immediate results. I think it takes 4 days to peek so....... If you take the 112.5 one day - then continue taking the 75mcg the rest, for 4 days you should have enough T4 converting to T3 higher and I think making hyper symptoms.
Besides that, then after to 112 leaves and you go back to 75 in your system - I would think - it would have a slight crash effect until the next 112 is taken.
I just don't get it - I spoke with my physician MD regarding taking different levels and he didn't advise this due to my thought.
I guess I don't know enough about this meds stuff - but logically it seems your body needs to get use to a thyroid med and with upping and lowering the dosages - I would think the body can't figure out which way to go?
Just my thought- I don't want to come across questioning your doctors orders. I am just confused on this treatment.
I can see both sides of this coin.
On one hand, I agree with Stella.
On the other hand, the way it is absorbed, a larger dose one day a week shouldn't make a dramatic affect, theoretically.
Try it for a few weeks and see if things level out. As long as you are not having bothersome heart symptoms, you should be safe.
Are you taking generic Levothyroxine? If you are, you would be better off with a name brand drug. If you're taking Levothroid, it is available in a dose of 88mcg., but that may be too much for you daily.
Hope you find the magic dosage soon.
for now i am taking levothroid. someone else wrote to me and said that their dr claims that they go by the total mcg per week. that would put me at 562.5 per week with the one day of 112.50mcg. if i took 88mcg per day that would be 616mcg per week and maybe too much for my heart to handle at once? maybe my endo is trying to help me avoid the palps i got when i jumped from 50mcg to 75mcg in january? who knows. i will try it and see what happens. i will be testing my tsh and t's at the end of this month then meeting with the endo on 05/01.
