Which med is best?

I recently underwent a total thyroidectomy (which I now regret, but that's a whole nother topic).  I've taken several thyroid replacements meds over the past twenty-five years.........synthroid, levothroid and currently have been on levoxyl for over five years.  Now that my thyroid is gone is there a preferred thyroid replacement that is best?  My surgeon was going to switch me off of levoxyl after surgery, but I resisted and wanted to stay on the levoxyl.  I figured my body would be going through enough changes and shock already.  I'm experiencing almost steady heart palpitations and heart pounding, since surgery two weeks ago.  Could this be related to thyroid med?

Thanking you in advance for any advice.  I wish I had found this website BEFORE I elected to have surgery.

I have found that if a certain med is working for you don't change it. You said you've been on levoxyl for over 5 years before surgery? I would think if you did well on it before surgery then you should keep doing well after surgery.

It can take time LOTS of time to get regulated after surgery it took me almost a year and then I felt WONDERFUL for 6 months THEN I allowed them to change my meds that I had been taking for over 10 years. I experienced a hypo he// like I never knew. I think your WISE to stay with what you know works for you. I'm just hoping I don't have permanent damage from when they changed my meds. I'm now back on the old and healing but it's been months of debilitating pain. That's just my 2 cents.. I wouldn't let them EVER change my meds again so long as I'm doing well on my old faithful Levo!!!!!!!

Hi there! I am so sorry you are having a rough time of it. May I ask why you had your thyroid removed?
When were your most recent labs done? Did you have a free t4 and free t3 done with a TSH? You need to see if you are converting your t4 to t3 since the thyroid removal. How long since your thryoid removal? Are you getting labs done regularly to keep track of your levels falling?
Heart palps can be from going hypo as well....need to make sure you are not over or under.  :)
Please post most recent labs and results with ranges.
