D VITAMIN is core to thyroid balance, in preventing SAD and various illness, ie, breast/prostrate/colon cancer, MS, depression, infection, flu, etc. Melatonin produced in tanning beds, ALSO MAKES the "D" vitamin which is pivitol in balancing hormonal processes and above issues. IODINE is also crucial for thyroid and breast tissue, and was once heavily relied upon by physicians, prior to all the profit indulgences of drug patenting which resulted in Iodine's non-patentable benefits getting shelved in a dark, dusty corner. Nevertheless, these 2 all important thyroid boosters could merit use in the quest for sleep, along with other mentioned sleep aids. I've added hops, chamomile, tryptophan, & celery juice to my list. Sweet dreams to everyone....zzzz....
Yes I do understand. I can see the interference with sedative use and anti depressants. Not sure what the warning would mean regarding autoimmune problems.
I will do some checking - not sure if I will find anything.
Hi stella. as i said my husband takes melatonin. he got it from a firm called BIOVEA. It does do the trick for him.I would love to take it my self because sometimes I just cant sleep at all even after working all day (9 hours). I work full time.
I have hashimoto's disease I use to sleep all the time and can't stay awake. and these recent days I'm so tired and yet I can't sleep at all.
Want to take melatonin but I'm scared to make my situation worse especially when I read this:
It's right in front of me now and I'm writing what I see:
it says:
MELATONIN 1 MG Fihgts insomnia and jet lag - Slows the Ageing Process.
Its says as well: melatonin is a hormone produced by the pineal gland in the humain brain that regulates health sleep patterns .
In the WARNINGS IT SAYS:
If you are under medical supervision or using any tranquilizers or sedatives seek the advice of your doctor. NOT INTENDED FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH AUTOIMMUNE CONDITIONS OR DEPRESSIVE DISORDERS.
Sorry my english is not good. it's not my first language.
Hope you understand what I wrote.
All the best.

Mag citrate - much better absorbtion.
I did some searching on the melatonin this morning too. I do not know a whole lot about this.
I know I get the S.A.D. thing in the winter here where I live and it was suggested I take melatonin for it. I also was told a couple of visits to the tanning salon in the winter helps too to produce melatonin. I chose going to the tanning booth over a supplement.
That's about all I know.
To stella, is there a particular magnesium formula you would suggest?
Oh really! I will definitely look into that. Although, that is not causing the sleeplessness, just not helping any. Thanks for the info. Take care.

What have you read?
Hi peggy. i've read about melatonin and i think if one have any autoimmune system disease should'nt be taking it!!!
any suggestions?
I've tried the magnesium and the melatonin. Going without sleep makes you feel as if you are losing your mind after a period of time. Oh well.
I tried them and other too. Yes I have found some help. I take one magnesium pill a day and my sleeplessness is gone. Except when my husband snores and wakes me :)
It has worked like a charm and only took less than a week to start working.
The later you take it the better sleep you will get.
