Thank you for clarifying that. I'll let you know how it turns out. Thanks for your help
Be sure to ask for FREE T3 and FREE T4. There are two other tests, total T3 and total T4, which are not nearly as useful. However, if they just order "T3 and T4", you will get totals and not frees.
When you get your results, if you'd like to post them here, we can help you interpret them. Otherwise, bear in mind that FT4, as a rule of thumb, ought to be about the middle of the range, and FT3 ought to be upper half of range.
Good luck.
Thank you for answering my question. The Cardiologist was just doing yearly blood work for my yearly exam. I am not aware of any symptoms so far. I'm a little nervous, because my Mother has hypothyroid. I know it can be genetic. I think I will call my Cardiologist on Monday and see if they can do the additional testing you recommended. Thanks again for your help.
It's probably your TSH that was 0.11? A low TSH usually (there are some very important exceptions) indicates hypERthyroidism. TSH is counterintuitive...when it's low, you are hyperthyroid (high thyroid function), and when it's high, you are hypothyroid (low thyroid function).
Were you having symptoms that prompted your cardio to order TSH?
A TSH of 0.11 is below reference range, indicating that you could have thyroid dysfunction. However, TSH is a screening test at best, and an abnormal result should prompt further testing...FREE T3 and FREE T4, as you indicated. If you are having symptoms that point to either hypo or hyper, you should definitely purse this with further blood work.
