What's the point of the WBS after RAI?

Hi guys, I just had my RAI on September 12th and went in for my WBS yesterday.  The way I understand it, it takes weeks to MONTHS for the remaining thyroid tissue to die off (I had 7.6% remnant uptake, so I have a good amount to get rid of).  So what's the point of the WBS only 10 days after RAI?  Shouldn't it still show that the RAI is in my system and killing off the tissue?  Doesn't it make more sense to wait longer to do this scan?  What can this scan even tell the doctors?

thanks Utah!  I know it showed uptake in my thyroid area which should be expected since my surgeon left a good amount of tissue there after the surgery...I just didn't know what else they could really tell.  I am hoping I get my all clear soon...I am so ready for this process to be over with.  You guys are the greatest.
Kim, let me know if you hear from D, I'm getting worried---so not like her to be away this long...

I have not seen Despina on in some time.  Hope all is well for her!  Anyone else heard from her?

I am still having fits with swelling and other things.....  The road is still filled with "pot holes" for me.  I fall off into them from time to time.  Still nowhere with a diagnosis.

It shows them where any "significant" uptake is occuring - meaning where any thyroid tisse or thyroid cancer remains.   My treatment dose showed significant uptake in the thyroid bed - that's where my recurrence was.   My followup scan showed uptake in my liver and head so that is where they are watching on me now.

My sister's showed *very significant* uptake in the breasts and abdomen - meaning that's where the cancer metastasised to.  The did a followup thyroglobulin test two months later and her levels were at 0.00 meaning it killed it off.

Fun process, eh?

Hi Kim!!
Thanks for saying hi...I am so frustrated with this whole process, I just want it to be over with, you know?  I feel like my life has been at a stand still for 5 months now---it just needs to be done.  How are you my dear friend?  Has anyone heard from Despina?  I haven't since early September and I am getting worried!!

Maybe it gives them an idea of where there is still uptake for future scans???  I don't know really, but wanted to say hello my dear.  How are things?  Big hugs my friend! ~Kim
