interesting info on teeth

DLA
Went looking for something about my teeth, this is the third one that has done this, and did not find anything about thyroid disorders and what is called "dental caries" or rampant tooth decay.  Did however learn that one of the causes of this is radiation to the head or neck.  Hmmmmm.....  How many of us have had something like that you think?  Gee, great.

Here's the web site if interested, but be warned it has pictures!  :-(

Sometimes I feel like we are doomed.  I got a new dentist about 6 years ago, when mine retired.  He started replacing fillings with the white ones.  I have 2 permanant crowns with gold posts since 1979.  A few years ago I was complaining about a metalic taste in my mouth. Neither my dentist or GP had any ideas as to what it may be. Then 2 years ago I'm diagnosed with thyroid cancer, and my endo said it had been growing for a while.  Did the dentist stir up a hornets nest by taking out the original fillings?

bobh1 - Be careful what you read and listen to.  There are many sides to this issue.

BTW - The parathyoids are four small glands outside (para means outside) the thyroid.  They do not control the thyroid and other than location have nothing to do with it.  Their job is to control the regulation of calcium between the bones and blood.

Liz94 - Be careful of those tests, as they can be inconclusive and leave a lot of guessing.

Gee, how did you get to adulthood without any fillings?

Well, not to poop the party or anything but I've never had a filling of any kind in my teeth and I have thyroid cancer. Is there a blood test they can do to check your mercury levels?  I know there's a health food store near my house that will do a hair analysis for you and tell you everything in your system that doesn't need to be there. But, it takes a while to get the results and it's expensive.

Silver amalgams are 50 - 65% mercury. The mercury over time expands, cracking the tooth. Then you need a crown. Crowns are metal or have metal in them. The cement insulates the two metals. Usually within five years the cement has leached out and decay has set in. The decay makes an electrical connection between the two dis-similar metals creating a battery. The current flowing through the mercury, causes it to out gas eighty times greater. In my case, the mercury has created a low parathyroid condition. The parathyroid controls the thyroid.

Gold crowns are not made of gold. They are made of palladium, and is not a good material to put in your body. For more information go to healthline.cc, there is some information there, check for the time and radio frequency to listen to Dr. Marshall's radio program, or get the phone number to call in.

Being the resident dentist (oops don't know if I should have admitted that :), it is interesting to see what everyone is writing here.  I've never had any amalgams in my mouth and here I am.  My parents both have autoimmune conditions (rheumatoid arthritis and BMMP (pemphigoid)) and I have also had another immune condition prior to Graves called ITP.  They have not had amalgam fillings either.  If anyone is looking for the best materials to use in the mouth, I would suggest porcelain and gold.  Gold is very well known for being very compatible in the body.  Dental restorations done nicely in gold are gorgeous.  In more esthetic areas, porcelain is quite inert.

Having said all this, I really doubt that dental work has any effect on all of us developing the various problems with the thyroid.  Amalgam fillings do contain mercury but if the mercury all came out, you'd have disappearing fillings and those things last a long time in people's mouths!  It is just another chemical that we unfortunately end up adding to our bodies.  There is a ton of mercury in tunafish and some other related food products.  As well, the toxins floating around in our breathing air these days is horrifying.  My theory is all the debris/toxins in the air over time from all the various forms of manufacturing (plastics, etc.) is what is poisoning our bodies more and more as the years go by.

Anyways, just my two cents :)  And, no, I wouldn't mind if they discovered a vaccine for cavities.  I'd love to have a perfect excuse to stay home with my daughter :)
