Hi there....at the top rt side of this page you will see where it says: discussions, health pages, trackers, etc.  Click on the health pages and go to the armour information page. At the very bottom you will find a link to take you to the Armour prescribing information page for you and your doctor. It will explain how to prescribe and how to increase and when to test levels as it is diff than synthetics. Hopefully the 30mg was only a starting dosage. He should be increased to tolerance every 2-3 weeks and blood tests every 4.
If he was on 75mcg of levo, he might end up taking 60mg of armour....maybe. Also if there is a weight issue (under weight) he might take a smaller dosage. As long as 30 mg is a starting dosage then you are okay. His body needs time to adjust. I do know in the conversion charts and prescribing info they talk about weight in children when dosaging. Also, the blood work will show how he is doing as long as it is read properly. The best thing to do is find our thread "those of us on armour #2" and post his test results and how he is doing as you go along. Then all of us can take a look.
Let us know.  :)

My sweet little 6 year old son was born with Panhypopituarism ( does not release cortisol,HGH ,Thyroid hormones ) and has been on either Synthriod or Levothyroxine 75 mcg. since birth. I have Hashi's and are on 3 grains of Armour thanks to my black belt in Google I discovered the benefits of Arrmour over Synthroid and are my own self taught medical researcher who basically saved my own life through bio hormones , Armour and second guessing conventional MD's who have been bought and sold by Synthroid "Ching Ching" Anyway, my question is I have finally got a Pediatric Endo to convert him to Armour and like the previous post he prescribed only 30MG when my son has been on 75MCG of Levothyroxine? What up with that? What conversion chart do you supposed they are following? Now I have to make that dreaded phone call to say they are mistaken! UGH!
Any one experienced a child converting over to Armour? Does it effect kids differently? Please folks, I would be grateful as he also suffers from high functioning Autism I figured the T3 might be beneficial to his cognitive abilities and extreme mood swings. OR my theory is it may be the root of his autism. He is so fragile and has been doing OK I worry if I am doing the right thing for him. Please advise as he is supposed to start in the morning! I am going to recover this kid if it kills me but I need help. God bless his heart I don't want to put him through any more physical or emotional imbalance.
Thanks,  Karen

Carbs will turn into high insulin in your body - so definately carbs can effect sugar lows and highs

Definately - depending on your insulin at the given time - will you feel a bit different.

I don't check my levels - I just go by my symptoms. AND since I totally starved the sugar out of me and basically started over- I do feel much better all day long.

What a battle we have as "thyroidians"

Yes, I was thinking about the blood sugar issue. My only confusion is that is not the same all the time. In fact there are times when I need carbs. After I eat them my brain is not foggy anymore, other times is the opposite. I will definitely check my glucose

This sounds like you might be having some blood sugar issues going on. Do you have access to a glucometer? If so, you might try checking your bs before eating and then one hour after eating.

Would it be possible to go see your GP to rule anything else out? You might get in a bit quicker with them.  You have probably already thought of this, I don't know.

So, please don't think I am insulting your intelligence.   Sometimes, when all this craziness and distress is going on, I am to stressed to think of things like this.

Thanks again. I will look into adrenals.
One more question, I have days (mornings) when I fell well until I eat. Everyday I take the pill 1 hour before breakfast but sometimes after I eat I feel terrible. I could not figure out if it's related to what I eat, like too much carbs.

Don't jump into adrenal distress. Take the time to look and research.

I think IF adrenals are causing grief you should start by googling Dr J Wilson's adrenal links.

If I remember right - there is a quiz to see if you fit within the perimeters of the disorder. It also gives you info on what to take to heal them.

Vit C and B's are good. - but check out some sites to understand.

Well I called the office and asked to be on the 'waiting' list in case somebody cancel. Nothing yet. I will try again.
So now, on top of thyroid, weight gain, brain fog and other 'good' stuff I do have the problem with the adrenals. Can I do something on my own before seeing the doctor?

Does anybody knows if to many supplements can do some damage? I was taking lots of them lately so I will be able to function like before, not being sleepy after lunch, active in the evening.

Can you call and get in to see your dr before November? That might help, and you won't have to keep on with this.

If you thyroid has been not working properly and is hypo for a whiole - the adrenals will overwork themselves to adjust the hormones levels in kinda a "fake " sense.

If you are into bio-identical hormones then you doctor and you know the whole endocrine system works together and each component must be "running" in a balanced mode to have everything functioning normally.

I didn't want you to think I was assuming the pains were menstraul cramps. I was just comparing the pain to them.

That is what I felt all day long for months before my adrenals were addressed as the issue.

It was kinda of a "nagging" ache - alllllllllllll dayyyyyyyyyyy loooooooong.

Now if you mention the pain it's like menstrual cramps.  It's not my case as I am at menopause. I am also on bio-identical estrogen and progesterone.
You mentioned adrenal issues. What is causing that?

Do those pains feel a bit like Menstrual cramps?

No - not really

It is more commonly foound in adrenal issues. It sounds classic.

That is where my pain was when I found my adrenals were near exhaustion.

BP's can be up and down with thyroid - STRESS is the biggy on that.

Thank you for the info. I will wait until I will see my doctor. And I will make sure to ask for all the tests you mentioned.
Later I start developing lower back pains, close to the kidneys. Is this another thyroid symptom? I also start having blood pressure. Could be because of the thyroid?

I know you directed this to Laura - I hope you don't mind me responding.

You cannot base Hashi - or even hypo - on a TSH test alone. You doctor knows better and should be testing you appropriately.

Those Free tests are so important - but for some odd eason they are taught TSH in medical school is the only needed test. ... It's sad.

A TPOab test is what you need for Hashi testing.

I know of many people who purchase online Armour and personally this is not a good idea.

First off - God forbid - IF you ever need emergency care in a hospitol and can not communicate appropriately - you won't be a regristered Armour patient on record - so this could be potentially dangerous.

Second - I feel some of these online pharm's are scams. I dabbled a bit looking over some of them and my gut just tells me that they are not what they say the are.

It took me almost pitching a fit - I suppose "looking crazy" at times - getting a doctor to "LISTEN" to ME and try the Armour in the way I FELT I KNEW it would work for me!

After years of ignorant doctor care - I found one that really allows me to self medicate in the way that makes me feel better than I have in years. AND if something happens to me - my doctor KNOWS what I have been doing to continue getting the treatment that works the best for me.

I don't steer anyone regarding with meds to use. All I can say is - for me Armour saved my life.

I did not have a free t3 or t4 test yet and my latest THS was 2.5. When I was diagnosed my THS was 7.2, this was 8 months ago. I can say I feel somehow better but far from good. I have good days and really bad days, I have the feeling the pills are not made equal. I am trying all kind of supplements so I can function and now I am waiting to have my November doctor visit. This suppose to be a good doctor. I saw other Endo but with no results. I will not even mention the weight that's going up and up...I wander when it will stop.
What shall I ask the doctor besides having the Free t3/t4 tests? Will a treatment with Armour help me more? How to test for Hashi?
What if I change to Armour on my own? I can order them from Canada.

I was on 75mcg of synthroid and was put on 60mgs of armour to start.....I am now on 75mgs of armour. I had gone a little hypo though. What were your latest test numbers?
Did your dr run your Free T3 as well? Do you have hashi's?

I pretty much know by grain value

One grain 60mg of Armour is about .88mcg of Levo that's about as close as you will get to 75mcgs

So about 30mg Armour would be close for the 37.5

This is a good question. Thanks for asking anca77

Can anyone tell me what the equivalent of 37.5 synthroid would be in armour?
