PT or TT??!

biopsy last week, results yesterday.  Have 2 nodules in left side-1 large complex, 1 small solid.  Endo says the solid one is a satellite of the larger one(and didn't come right out and say it, but seemed to be more focused on the smaller, solid satellite nodule).  Biopsy says the cells are atypical.  Right side is slightly enlarged, but no nodules.  She recommends PT, frozen section during surgery to determine if cancer-if so, TT.  If only PT, will medicate me for life, to keep the right side from growing, but could still produce nodules later.  She doesn't like to do TT unless necessary to preserve parathyroid glands, but did say that a 2nd surgery later is often more difficult due to scar tissue and losing reference points from losing half of the thyroid.

Meeting with surgeon 4-14...what can I expect during this appt, and should I be talking to the surgeon, or the endo if I should really just have the whole thing done.  Since I'm going to be medicted regardless, is it still better to have half a thyroid that may be somewhat functioning, rather than nothing and totally dependent on meds??

(not freaking out anymore:)

I was tested for autoimmune diseases, and they were negative.  I have requested a copy of all labs and such, so I'd like to see for myself that they were indeed "normal"  :)

Have you been tested for Hashimoto's?  If autoimmune problems getting stable levels might be more difficult if part of thyroid still there.  I had a potentially cancerous nodule and had PT due to negative result during surgery. If it had been cancerous I would have had TT.   It has been difficult to regulate thyroid levels due to continuing die off of thyroid (or so I have been told).  I think now it would have been better to just had it all out if I had known the difficult regulating.  Maybe some of the other regulars on the board will have more info.
