The odds of hypothyroid turning into Grave's hyperthyroid is extremely uncommon. BUT if you look at the situation the other way Grave's can eventually burn out the gland and then you become hypothyroid

You must be clear in your post. for example.

If you are low thyroid - which I take as a low "function" of the gland - that would mean hypothyroid and your Labs tests would be on the high end.

If you mean labs test (TSH ) came back "low" then that would mean you are showing hyperthyroidism on your labs and further testing is needed - for example TSI Grave's antibody testing should be done to either rule in or out you having the antibodies causing the hyperthyroidism in the first place. Then uptake scans and the list moves on from there.

If you test in a certain way that your doctor feels anti thyroid medication is needed then you will be offered a script to fill and you must test periodically to see if your TSH raises.

One thing I would do is try and research it on the internet to see if there is any way hypo could turn into something like Graves.  There is also the possibility that you may have not been property diagnosed.

Are you having hyper symptoms?

thank you for your help. I have never been diagnosed with graves disease but i was just wondering about it. I seen a program about thyroids and graves disease on tv and i knew that hyper thyroid could lead into it but didn't know if hypo thyroids could do the same thing or not.

Well, I'm not sure that I can answer your question.  But--I can tell you that I am a Graves Disease patient which is a hyperthyroid condition.  I would think that if your thyroid is low, you wouldn't be likely to go hyper--but I guess you never know.

I only became hypo after I had RAI to kill off some of my thyroid and make it not as functional to get rid of the hyper problem.  I now take Armour thyroid to counter act hypo and "normalize" my thyroid hormones.

If you are concerned about Graves and not having been properly diagnosed, I think you should call your doctor and ask for specific blood tests for antibodies.  That is really the only way to know for sure if you could have Graves.
