multinodular goitre

I had an ultrasound yesterday and was sent home with a letter for my Dr, it read... thyriod gland is normal in shape and size with a heterogeneous parenchyma consistent with a multinodular goitre.  Please can someone tell me what this means, and should I insist on further tests, eg FNA.  thanks.

the FNA is done for nodules larger then 1 cm. If report does not say that you have them the FNA is not needed.I can speculate that many small 2-3 MM size nodules were found, but report must really say that.

Normally, if the nodule is very big, the size of the thyroid would be abnormal as my was but the shape remained normal. Most people have nodules within the thyroid and most are found by accident. I agree with the other poster. You should speak to your doc in regard to your concern just to clarify.
