Working with Thyroid issues???

How many of you are able to work and function with your Thyroid condition?  I'm finding it more and more difficult.  Retirement is looking good:)

In my case it was surgery with controlled symptoms afterwards so other than the initial month, it hasn't interferred.

I have been up and down with the Synthroid; but doesn't interfere with ability to work/function.

Sometimes its very hard going to work.  Luckily I have a desk job so it doesn't take too my physical activity.  If it did then I don't think I could do it.  I usually have no energy.

When I was hyper Graves I was working at a job aI loved. Then all he// broke loose and had RAI.

Became so ill but struggled as best I could. I was extremely aggitated emotionally and physically but pushed myself to the limits. I took a promotion while extremely ill and worked under a perverted boss and a very distraught union that was in the process of grieving me for getting the promtion in the first place.

Truely - the stress and illness made me snap on that nasty boss I had within 6 mths of getting this position. I was in the process of meeting on insuborniation charges and with a union already grieving me - I took a medical leave because the anxiety was unbearable .  I do feel I handled the situation wrongly with a "truck driver mouth" but so be it!

Finally I decided to terminate my employment and took 4mths off still very ill. At that time I had no real help with my medical issues except anxiety meds and Synthroid which was not working for me.

As money got tight I returned to a job I knew little about. I was a freight expiditer with a global freight service working super long hours. I think I totally fell into a shock being ill and trying to be good at my work. I became violently ill throwing up everyday by 3am and went to the ER at least twice a month thinking I was going to die.

I ended up quitting that job and shifted around another 4 jobs until finally I got proper help with my thyroid meds.

I got another chance working at another place doing the job I loved to do in the beginning and I am still there.

I am now healthy an able to finally say my thyroid condition is under control 6 years later.

Our family is in debt up to our necks from medical bills and living expenses while was off work - but as things are returnng to normal finally - I can manage the stress of money now too. - (at least most of the time) LOL.

I try not to look back - but it is what it is. I am just happy that I found some real help getting this thyroid medication under control. and I thank God everyday for it.

It is very hard, trust me:) I have a full time job, they promoted me when I felt the worst. I guess my body knows it just can't give up!  It also helps letting your coworkers know of your problem, they can help you through the day, trust me! It isnt that bad, you give up, your body will shut down! Don't let it happen yet:)

I'm barely functioning and can barely work.  Since I work at home (I do landscape design on my computer for a landscaping company), it does make it easier, but there are times when I have to meet with customers at job sites (out in the scorching Florida sun) and deal with builders.  It's become increasingly difficult for me to do anything including working on the designs.  I have a pretty understanding boss, but I'm sure that several months of this will take its toll on his patience.  I have RAI in a couple of weeks, but have been told that it will be months before I feel better.  I don't have a choice but to work since you can't get disability unless you've been considered disabled for a year (which ticks me off since I've paid into Social Security since I started working 30 years ago).  I just pray every day that I can make it through another.

Redheadaussie -

I so much miss the energy.  However, I don't miss the anxiety attacks, palpitations, etc. that I had before beginning treatment for Hyperthyroidism.

You've made me laugh.....  Remember so well those years (on the go you don't have time to stop).  Now I'm lucky some mornings to make it out of bed.  But, I get a little of that Java and off I go.

WORK? Bwwwwwaaaaahhhhhaaaaahaaaaaaa....oh me rolling about on the floor with mirth. Oh I remember those days, flying out of bed, dumping scalding hot coffee down the throat, whilst showering (to save time of course!), grabbing the kids, driving in peak traffic, having a full day of screaming abusive clients, get to the supermarket, rush around like some Formula 1 race driver with my trolley...fling bags in the car, make dinner, wash children, clean clothes, get back to bed..........ah yes....then there was the pay packet.....Lovely thing that... I used to make over $45,000 a year back then....(that's about $80,000 Australian now...good money!)  Now I am get a lousy $22,000 a year from the government ...which is below the poverty line here in Australia.
Work....what a lovely thing that would be. I actually miss all that energy I used to have!

I was wondering if it's possible that I could have a thyroid problem. I can barely make it through the day. I keep trying to push through it but most day ends with me going to sleep on the floor or not being able to get up at all. After I eat, I sometimes become dizzy and blurry and sometime I can't even sit up. I sometimes feel drugged and go into a state where I'm laughing and playing around and I don't even have the strength to stand up. I have a hard time keeping my eyes from crossing and I can't even write my name on a piece of paper when I'm really sick. I'm so feed up. If anyone has any suggestion for me I would love to hear them. My info - (I'm 28, I'm about 180 pretty lean) Thanks in advance

I've been on vacation since October.

Had a five month vacation in 2006.
And days off in between!

I certainly have my days.  The anxiety has finally, for the most part, gotten under control.  However, the exhaustion, brain fog, and "ups and downs" continue to be bothersome.

The only thing that helps is to walk, everyday.  Most days have to make myself do that, but it's worth it.

At this point, it is so uncontrolled, my anxiety, exhaustion, mental duress, panic bordering on agoraphobia at this point. I am unable to work
