nighttime butterflies/anxiety/vomiting

i was diagnosed with hypothyroidism after my first son five years ago but stopped taking my synthroid bc my symptoms got better and better before i was even diagnosed.  ever since my thyroid has tested normal. at night time whenever my body is too tired or stressed i get horrible butterflies in my stomach like i am about to give a speech -yet i don't have any mental anxiety about anything. i also get very cold, bloated, constant urge to go to the bathroom and eventually will vomit (usually after taking a hot bath to warm up). i know that the thyroid gland is connected to the adrenal glands- do these control anxiety? sometimes the butterflies wake me up in my sleep and torture me. also, i have to sleep on my back during these episodes, any pressure on the spot right below my chest is very uncomfortable and makes me want to throw up. my primary and gastro have told me i probably have ibs and tell me i need antianxiety medication which i refuse to take because emotionally i am not anxious about anything.do you believe this could be my thyroid or something else entirely? thanks...

Hi, I get all your symptms, they're awful aren't they, and I am going through a premature menopause and thyroid condition that have got out of control this year. You should get all your bloods checked again. These symptoms are strong with these conditions. I have also suffered with IBS for years and years, and have just found out that it might not be IBS afterall, but endometriosis. These docs never seem to get anything right do they? Anyway, I'd get more answers if I were you, because I knew it wasn't normal to feel so worked up and eventually found out it was due to these conditions. Hope this helps.

Sounds very similar to the symptoms I have and I am also hypothyroid and I have ulcers.  I dry heaved from the ulcers, but I was vomiting from my gallbladder which I had removed a few years back, they symptoms of the two are very similar, and both are very easily diagnosed and treated.  You might want to take prilosec before bed, or after dinner and see if something as simple as that helps.  good luck.

The only way to know if it is your thryoid is to get your dr to run a TSH. The new range according to the endo society is 0.3-3.0.

Each person is unique so your optimal might be 0.3, or 1.2, or 1.0, or,,,,well you get the picture.

Also, ask for a copy of your results for your record.

Now, not wanting to step on toes, but why haven't you tested your levels at least once a year, since you had previously had a diagnosis?  Maybe your dr did not tell you to do so, which just might be. But, since you have had a diagnosis, ALWAYS ask your dr to run that test at least once a year, if this check proves to be in a good range.

Don't wait, take it from me.....it only gets worse.............
