no help and i feel exhausted!!!!!!!!!

Hi Everyone
I am going to the hospital this afternoon to see an ear/nose and throat specialist ( I don,t know what i am going for?) I am hoping that i will be having further tests on my thyroid but i am a bit anxious as i have been suffering with a severe head cold and tickling cough!!!! (I hope they can do what they need to) All this waiting is killing me and i am no nearer to getting any answers.

I suppose i want to come on here just to rant and rave because my husband is treating this like its no big deal!!!!!!!!!!!!
Everyday is like a huge big effort for me, yet i still have to get the kids up for school, go to work, pick them up, iron the clothes and do the tea, when really all i want to do is put the bed covers over my head and stay in bed indeffinately. I know my bloods came within the normal range but my antibodies are high and i have a multinodular goitre, I think because the bloods said normal my husband thinks i should be functioning ok?!! I have tried telling him how i feel and he promises to help but never does. My 15 year old son cares more and has done a few washes for me but he is doing his GCSE'S (bless him)and i tend not to take him up on his offer of helping a bit more!!
Don't get me wrong my husband is very good to all of us but lacks  emotion (Am i just being picky and a bit of a hypochondriac or do you think my ranting is just!!!!!)
sorry about this post but i am extremely tearful and emotional at the moment and scared about the tests i may have to have!!!

Hi, I just recently started posting here, but I want to second everything Charley said.  I also had a papillary cancer of a follicular variant.  All my blood work was normal as well.  Even the FNA was negative.  My problem was that it was hard to swallow and breath.  Just because your thyroid levels are in the normal range doesn't mean there isn't a problem.  My ENT was smart enough to know that just because the FNA was negative didn't mean that the goiter wasn't cancerous.  Unfortunately, he wasn't a great surgeon. Bright guy, just inexperienced.  If you have surgery, please research the surgeon.  I have been blessed with my family and blessed that my job allows me to work from home.  Even before the RAI, my co-workers told me that if I was tired they would cover cases for me.  I really didn't get all that tired until the late afternoon, but my reaction time was really slow.  The RAI really went very well.  Things will look up for you, but you have to be persistent.  It took nearly a year of complaining that I couldn't swallow before my family doctor ordered an ultrasound that found the 2.5cm substernal goiter.

Blessings to you.

Yep!!!! You said that right - rather have the FNA twice than to have the back labor I had EVER again!!!!!!  You keep that good attitude, chick - all will be fine!

Thank you for your comments, I am in tears as i am reading it!
Everyone is so kind and understanding that it gives me the strength to face the world another day!
I had a call this morning and have an FNA scheduled for Monday morning (Felt extremely anxious but pleased at the same time)
God, having a few needles stuck in your throat will be a piece of cake compared to giving birth!!!!! (See how positive i am being!!!)

I must admit i have been having some really selfish thoughts and wish the doctors find something that will mean i can have some medication, I have already been told that i will not be treated if nothing is found because my blood levels are normal!

My first goitre was discovered 10 years ago and i was borderline Hypo but nothing was done then and a follow up has only been done recently becaused i pushed for answers!

The thought of having to endure feeling like this indeffinately is making me feel depressed. Well i musn't jump on the band wagon, time will tell i suppose!
thank you all xxxxx

I completely understand where you are coming from.  I am a single mom and during all my stuff, I still had to take care of my son and house alone.  Granted, once I got close to RAI, my family helped out because i looked like s**t - and they could tell I felt really bad.  I had total thyroidectomy for papillary cancer with follicular variant.  It is tough to continue to go and go when you feel like **** - not to mention the stress and fear of the unknown.  It really helped me to write in my journal, to come here and vent and feel supported, and to read and read and learn more about what was going on.  I felt so empowered by the knowledge I gained.
I do, however have to mention that you should make sure that this surgeon has done this surgery many times.  Thyroid surgery is very tricky - and there are other glands (parathyroid) that are located behind your thyroid  - they control your calcium levels in your body.  If they are destroyed or injured, you could be looking at some serious stuff.  Again, try to research and learn all you can.  Another thing - go back to your doc office and demand a copy of your results.  That is your right as a patient.  Those are YOURS.  Legally, they cannot keep them from you. Go up to the desk and tell her you need a copy - you may have to sign a release, but that is all you have to do.  Because your antibodies are high, you could have hashimotos thyroiditis which can make you feel really crappy.  Nodules and goiters are common with hasi.  You have the symptoms.  Read up on hashi as well just so you can understand it all.  It is an autoimmune disease - your immune system attacks your thyroid and keeps it from functioning properly.  TSH levels can be completely normal when you have Hashimotos.  Another thing - TAKE CARE OF YOU!!!!!  Yes, as women we have responsibilities  -but guess what?  Sometimes we need to take care of us!  Is the world going to come to an end if you don't cook dinner one night?  Is the planet going to blow up if you don't iron those shirts?  I will tell you that my son certainly learned to appreciate me and all that I do.  Ask yourself - what is an absolute necessity here - do that and nothing more.  Rest.  Sleep.  Read.  Take care of you.  As far as the FNA, I think it varies from person to person.  I had alot of calcification, so she had to 'jab' me several time and move the needle around to get a good sample.  They did spray some lidocaine to deaden the skin - for what good it did - for me, it hurt  - it was very uncomfortable.  Please don't hesitate to come here and vent.  It is hard for anyone else to understand how you feel right now.  For me, most people around me had no idea how bad I felt until my tsh started to get high before the RAI.  I started to swell really bad and my eyes were almost shut.  FINALLY, people understood that I didn't feel good.  So, we are all here for you.  Keep posting and take good care of yourself.   I will keep you in my prayers.
Peace,
Charley

Hang in there as you will get better!

It seems like you are extremely fatigued and exhausted from all the trauma that is going on in your body. As many of us here have experienced, we understand that doing a little housework, or even just the simple movements of getting out of bed, takes up most or all of our energy. It makes it very difficult to function. The fear of more tests, worrying about family and doctor's responses, being very emotional, and perhaps feeling somewhat emotionally unstable are all very normal responses to being in an overwhelming situation. Thinking of worst case scenarios and feeling depressed are normal too. In time, you will get better and many of those feelings will eventually clear and subside. You are not a hypochondriac and are not crazy! Rant away and vent all you want as we are here for you!

Most importantly, do what you need to do to take care of yourself. That can mean having an extra long nap, letting others help out a little more, to giving yourself credit in getting through a bad few minutes, hours, or days of sheer hell! It takes a lot just to cope and get through this! It sounds like you have a wonderful son and husband.

Your bloods are normal but that does not always reflect good health. My doctors have said that many times! Science is far from exact and discoveries are still being made about how intricately the thyroid affects many of the body's systems. It is a confusing time for everyone, including your husband--which doesn't always help.

Oil of Oregano (in its organic form not mixed with any other oils is best) works well in clearing up and preventing bacterial and viral infections. Two or three drops on the tongue closest to the back of your throat every two hours can really help. The only thing is that it tastes bad! It is available at most heath food stores.

If you have sleep problems, try the sublingual form of melatonin (dissolves under the tongue which works better for me). You may have to experiment with dosages, but it is completely natural and has no side effects.

Take care of yourself, keep in touch, and let us know how you are doing.

I am so so sorry to hear about your problems :( I know how you are feeling and rest assured they havent ignored you - its just a painful game waiting and when you now have more tests to go through it gets frustrating.

Please let your frustration out in the process and tell your husband that htere are many many of us with NORMAl blood range but terrible symptoms and RELAXATION has been prescribed by us :) take care

FNA is mildly discomforting.  They put lidacaine on my neck then put a drape over my neck and obscured my vision...oh, that could have been cause I had my eyes closed. I was poked 4 times, 1st needle burned a little and I felt pressure, the other 3 just a little pressure.  Then waited to see if the pathologist had enough to do the test. The worst part of the whole thing was waiting to get it done, then waiting some more for the results.

Well i have just had my appointment with ENT (WHAT A COMPLETE WASTE OF MY TIME!!!!!!!)

He asked me how i was feeling (****!!!!), asked how my neck was (SWOLLEN!!), told me i have a mulinodular goitre (KNOW THAT!!), told me my bloods were within normal range apart from antibodies (KNOW THAT!!)
I asked him if it was usual for a letter to be marked urgent and was there anything i should be worried about? He said it was usual if undiagnosed lumps were found but said that as mine were all about 1.7cm and there were a few of them, the outlook was good, however i need to go for a FNA to make sure. I asked him if the previous ultrasound showed whether the lumps were hot/cold,fluid filled, cysts etc, but he just said "oh no, they are not cysts"!! The FNA will tell us more, make an appointment and see me 2 weeks after you have made an appointment for the scan??
I asked for a copy of the previous results and he said i can get them once i have had the FNA (WHY???!!)
I then tried to make an appointment at the ultrasound department and was told that the receptionist was away until monday!!!!!
BY THIS POINT I JUST WANTED TO SPIT IN SOMEONES EYE!!!!!!!! I HAVE LEFT THE HOSPITAL FEELING ANGRY, CONFUSED AND COMPLETELY LET DOWN!!! Lets see what the endo has to say on the 24th jan?????

Fear of the unknown sometimes sends people distant.  It is tough when this happens.  I see this with acquaintances at the schoolyard and those within family who they, themselves, are scared or just don't possess enough knowledge.

Have your appt and have your hubby near a phone so that the ENT can call him during your appt maybe and share his findings with you and your husband.  I have found sometimes that works as the partner then "gets" it a bit more.
