nodule, Hashimoto and goiter

A solide nodule was discovered a year and half ago, and in connection therewith I also became diagnosed with Hashimoto's disease. At that time I hade started taking Lipitor, 10 mg, for high  cholesterol. My endoctrinologist, an expert on thyroids, decided against thyroid hormone replacement therapy.  I am supposed to see him once a year, but I see a surgeon twice a year to check on the nodule. Two biopsies have proven "inconclusive", "underlying cause unknown" (size of nodule slightly larger than 1 mm 5 m ago). According to the surgeon I also have goiter. I have also had problems with my color bone and my elbow - swelling and pain - at different times (after I started Lipitor).

My questions: If hypothyrodism can cause high cholesterol is it not better to take thyorid hormone replacement than Lipitor?

I to have hashi and hypo plus i had high cholesterol that reduced significantly on thyroid meds..I agree look around for a doc to test your blood to see if you may benefit from thyroid meds and not lipitor..

Please run to your nearest regular doctor in your area that says they run tests for thyroid like free t3 and free t4. I had hashimotos as did my daughter, my Mother, sisters, etc. Find a Dr. to treat your thyroid and not TSH levels or lipitor crap. Hashimotos is awful, I am so sorry we have such bad endocrinologists in our country. Please google dr. in ...... treating t3 and t4, and you will be amazed over time how much that cholesterol comes down and how your nodules will be taken SERIOUSLY. It is very serious, so please look around now. my email, and I am in Texas is ***@****. Years I have been thru this and I am sorry your too went thru this. Nancy

I'd have to agree with you on this one! Lipitor is often flaunted as the cure all for cholesterol. What many general practitioners fail to recognise is that high cholesterol is actually a symptom of Hashimoto's and does reduce once thyroxine replacement is started!
The pains you feel are no doubt from the Lipitor. It is a very common side affect from taking that drug. Here in Australia you will often be prescribed another drug to counteract the pains..go figure!
I'd suggest seeing your doctor, and expressing your concerns, if they fail to take note, then ask to see an endocrinologist.
Cheers!
