With those test results and your symptoms, I sure would not discount the possibility of still being hypo. Many of our members report that symptom relief for them required that FT3 was adjusted into the upper part of its range and FT4 adjusted to at least midpoint of its range.
No i do not have another set of labs thats it. I have read that low testortone levels can also cause these symptoms, I just can't help but think that it has to be something else cause I've been on meds for thyriod sence Aug 2010. I took the 25mcg for about 3 weeks before my reg dr up the dose to 50mcg then i took that up until Dec 2010 thats when he up the dose again to 75mcg and I took that for a month and just recently he changed it back to 50mcg. But I still don't feel good thats what crazy??
Thanks for your response Tammy
I agree with gimel that your TSH is higher than it should be, and in the first testing, your FT4 was quite low, indicating a need for med. I understand the 25 mcg to start, and also the increase to 50, but not sure about the increase to 75; do you have another set of labs that would back that up?
How long were you on the 25 mcg and 50 mcg dosages?
To answer your original question, regarding the need for med, I'd say, yes, you do need it, based on the labs; I'd be interested in the symptoms that sent you to the ob/gyn thinking your hormones were off...... Symptoms of reproductive hormone issues and thyroid issues often overlap.
Even though TSH is inadequate as a diagnostic for thyroid, your result is above the currently recommended range of .3 - 3.0. This was recommended by the AACE over 8 years ago, but unfortunately most labs and doctors still use the old range.
Beyond that just having FT3 and FT4 results somewhere within the reference range does not mean that is adequate for you. The ranges are far too broad for that to be the case. Many of our members report that symptom relief for them required that FT3 was adjusted into the upper part of its range and FT4 adjusted to at least midpoint of its range. A good thyroid doctor will treat a patient clinically by testing and adjusting your FT3 and FT4 as necessary to relieve symptoms, without being constrained by resultant TSH levels. Symptom relief should be all important, not test results.
Hi sorry I didn't give enough info the tests were the Free T3 those results were 3.00 the reference rang was 2.14 - 3.91 , and the THS results were 4.62 and the ranges were 0.34- 5.60, Then the free t4 result was 0.86 with a range of 0.58 - 1.64. those were from the first Dr before i had been placed on meds then the other dr that checked me after i had been on meds these results say T4 and TSH were3.460 with a range of 0.450 - 4.500 and the thyroxine was 7.9 with a range of 4.5 - 12.0. I'am not sure if they used the same labs or not it was 2 different dr's. I hope this helps Thanks, Tammy
Please post your actual thyroid tests, results and the reference ranges used by your lab.
