post thyroidectomy. SCAARED

i am really really nervous. i am hot, but no fever and not sleepy. its only day 2 of the post tt but they started me out at 100 mcg of synthroid. i weigh 140. i am scared this is too much. in the office before surgery, she siad shed start at 100 mcg. then when i was laying in the hospital before surgery she said maybe 88 mcgs. I was so nervous about teh surgery I didnt really think about it and therefore just said to go with what we talked about before.

I read on the synthroid webage. that the average 70kg person *(or 154 lbs) takes 100-125 mcg. What if 100 is too much for me??????

I am so scared. I am hot feeling, legs are sweaty and I am just really nervous.

WHAT IF THIS IS TOO MUCH1?!

I was just wondering if anyone gained weight from the tt? I am scheduled to have surgery tomorrow. If so, was the weight gain only during the hypo period? Did it stabilize after synthroid?

no nite sweats here but I am hot all the time.(hypohell burns)EVen when I was hypo in Dec,I never got cold. All winter I have slept in my summer nightey and just a sheet for cover.

Are yall going through menopause in addition to this thyroid ****?That might explain the nitesweats.I hope not .like the thyroid **** isnt enough to deal with and menopuase too.
I had a hysterectomy so I havent really had to go through much with the nitesweats.I still get a hotflaxh now and then.
Yall hang in there .love Venora

I never had to have the RAI done, but am still having the night sweat symptoms...very tired today too.  I'm 2 weeks shy of turning 42, but I'm on the pill to supress ovarian cysts, and the gynie said I wouldn't know if I were going through menopausal symptoms.  I had trouble sleeping before my TT, but now, I'm sleeping really good.  Oh, the joys of being a woman!

I'm almost 3 months post TT and have been having major problems with night sweats, especially since my RAI on 25 Jan.  I, too, wake up usually around 3:00 a.m. and am totally drenched in sweat and have to change all my clothing. Some nights I even have to change my pj's twice.  I also have been having really weird dreams.  It's funny, even though I'm waking up every night, when I do sleep, it's a really deep sleep.  When I was hyperthyroid before TT, I had trouble sleeping. I would wake up every night between 2 - 3 and what sleep I got was not real restful.   I'm 46, so the night sweats could be perimenopause, but I haven't had any other symptoms.

Mavs, many of us women go through the hot flashes after TT - it's the body freaking out looking for its hormones.  Many of us have been started on 100mcg or more so no worried.  Your body is trying to get all the anesthetic out and locate its thyroid.  The few days after surgery are rough trying to overcome everything you've been through (usually the 3rd day is the worst).

hang in there!!

Scott - you may not have a pack of hypohell women on your trail but you have got ME now!  :-)  Must be because you don't have estrogen to mess with.  Yeah, yeah, rub it in - you've never had PMS either, have you??  :-)

That does it - I *AM* coming back as a man!!!  Grrrrr.
(Good luck tomorrow - glow on guy!!)

Just relax and you will do fine.  Just wait until you have to do your RAI that's where the fun is at..  hehe
You are actually doing great for a couple of days post TT.  I had mine on 11 Jan and am ready for my RAI tomorrow(05 Mar)(LET THE GLOWING BEGAN!!!!).

I guess I am one of the lucky ones to not really go thru hypo hell (as they say it) and my TSH was 109 just the other day.  This only took 3 weeks to do too.  Is this a record, anyone???  I do feel some affects of no hormone but still very active. (sorry ladies!!!) I am 38 male.  I contribute this to my supplementation I was on well before my surgery. Lifepack did wonders for me!!!

All I can say it dont worry (I know easier said then done) but really relax.  Welcome to our wonderful little club of TT patients!!!  Hey SMILE!!!  It actually helps!!
Come on by anytime were here for you!

Cheers,
Scott

Mavs,

Very important and I forgot to mention:  take calcium!!!  It can help the cramps.  Viactive chews are nice for sore post-op throats.

U R a very mature 24 .. let me tell you that .. I thought from your posts you were older than 24 .. HATS OFF TO YOU to handle your situation so great!!!!  I, too, have mega problems with pain meds .. only need 1/4 dosing and 25yrs ago coded with Demoral and that was very scary as about 25 people were around my bedside as my BP dropped lower and lower and I faded away .. I thought I was dying and cannot explain the fear I felt and then all of a sudden it got reversed and I was ok .. they said Severe Intolerance but when I tell med professionals about it they label it ALLERGY and don't mess with it .. 1/4 dosing morphene works for me, too .. more than that and I have a hangover for days!!!

I reall that Demoral episode so vividly that 2 of my 4 childbirths were au natural .. easier to deal with the pain than the med reactions.  One was C-section and 1/4 dosing of the morphene for 24hrs worked great in the epidural and my first was epidural and fine.

Keep us posted.

oh you guys are great. here i am, freaking out about the surgery. after the surgery, they gave me morphine, which i have a very low tolerance too. i take it and it gives me headaches, i get flushed/hot. at the hospital, i woke up with a WRETCHED headache and told them to stop the morphine. after a few hrs, the headache went down but my whole body was aching. i am just sensitive to pain meds. :( i am sure this is a combo of surgery, and anesthesia leaving my system. i am drinking a lot of h20 even though it hurts to swallow and got pedialyte.

you have totally calmed me down. i am not on pain medicine right now (sensitive to so many) but i am having a lot of muscle aches. i have never had these kinds of aches in my neck, throat, upper body, arms, etc and they said that it could have been from the way my arms were laid on the surgery table and obviously, the muscles can hurt after surgery. my dr called me in a muscle relaxer so i hope that helps. i am also taking motrin.

this whole thing is scary. im only 24 and while surgery is scary at any age, i just worry a lot.

The drugs from being put out can do a # of you, too, I woke up 1st night in whole body sweat and feeling faint with heart palpiation beyond belief .. turns out it was from the anesthesia working its way out I was told but I'd call your Dr. and address your situation .. let them figure out what is going on ... hang tight and keep us posted.

I am on a 100mg dose too and not having any problems other then still clearly hypo and waiting for this junk to take effect...you will know if you are swinging the other direction by how you feel so don't freak out nobody ever OD's on thyroid meds...just have episodes and get them regulated...

I am at the 3 week mark of my TT and I've been having night sweats since the night of my surgery.  I will wake up in the morning with my pj's soaked.  I've called the endo's office right away and they said my body is in shock. The remaining hormones from the TT take about a week to get out of your system completely. Nothing can be done until the Synthroid kicks in at 6 weeks.  I too am taking 100mcg's.  If you are overdosed, you will have heart palpitations...I did have these before my TT from too much Synthroid. Your body is just getting used to the lack of thyroid and the medicine in your system...also, it's only been 2 days for you, the anesthesia is working it's way out of your system too...It does get better after the first week.

I weigh 145 lbs and my endo first put me on 100 mcgs 2 days post TT and after first blood tests upped it to 125 mcg.  I'm feeling a little better, but energy level is still low.  I will be going for more blood tests this week, so I'll see how my TSH is doing.  My last TSH was 42 which was 12 days post TT and on 100 mcgs for 10 days.

The level of dosage is different for each person.  Weight may be a factor, but I'm sure it's not the only factor.  Absortion level probably is important also.
