Dear Ms. ,
Your neck ultrasound report is back.

IMPRESSION:
1. Enlarged heterogeneous thyroid gland.
2. There are some small ill-defined areas of calcification
involving the lower pole of the left lobe. Findings are
nonspecific.

No further intervention for now.
If you have any questions, please call my office.
Sincerely,

Any calcification would be of concern to me as that was what triggered my FNA and subsequent cancer dx.  Not to scare you, but I'd certainly be on that phone he offered asking that doctor why no further "intervention" is needed!  And maybe get a second opinion too!

First, welcome to the community, I hate you stumbled on to this site the way I did, full of questions, but, thankfully, you have come to a GREAT place!  I am new here too and have been ever so thankful that I have found this community of people searching for answers together.

Second, I must say.....

OMG - he EMAILED YOUR RESULTS!!???  Try not to stress - the heterogeneous thyroid could indicate Hashimoto's thyroiditis, and unfortunately, beyond that, I don't know.  That was the reading of my US on 4/8 - mine did not have a #2.

Since he e-mailed you an open invitation to call for a discussion, I would definately take him up on it.  I would definitely question why no further intervention since I guess he would be the best suited person to explain this.  You may want to google calcification of the thyroid, since I would not even begin to guess for you.

Did your doctor also order blood testing?  If so and only if you wish, you may find it helpful to post your labs here and the community could explain those if needed.

I wish you the best of luck with your new finding and hope you find this site as helpful as I have.

Also, you opened your post with Dear Dr. - the doctor's expert forum is in another location.  I will post that for you in a moment.  Hang in there!  Hope you are doing well and feel free to post, as I said, the community members have been great to me and I am sure they could help answer so question for you! ~K
