Well, I flew back to the good old land of Oz to see the endocrinolgist for the first time. I had booked him in July! Busy man! Anyhoos, first he was 2 hours late...that was not good to a jet lagged brain I can tell you! BUT he did spend an hour with me..went over everything with a fine tooth comb, so to speak...Wants to smack my surgeon around a few times for not having taken out the lovely Hurthle Cell infected lobe when the left lobe was removed. "Didn't she realise Hurthle Cells can escape and not always show that on the pathology?" Oh...says me.....feeling a little flat as I HAD suspected that. I have a lump in the right side and it makes me choke lately...it is starting to be noticeable and he had a feel and said to me as I choked and spluttered and felt dizzy from lack of blood to the brain,"That's uncomfortable isn't it?" He said it could be the thyroid tissue growing back or it could be the thyro-glossal duct.
He also wanted to know why nobody ever checked to see if I have any PTH going on for my parathyroids since I take 5 x 600mcgs of calcium a day, a Vit D and other assorted horse pills. Why has no one checked for pernicious anemia, why do I have to take so much iron, and on and on he went..All the while I am grinning to myself..as he spouted how he gets sick and tired of doctors jsut topping up medications rather than finding out WHY the patient needs it.
SO.....in all I am getting tested for menopause, Parathyroid Hormone, Pernicious Anemia, Thyroid antibodies, Full thyroid function tests, complete blood count, iron studies, celiac antibodies, calcium and lord only knows what else coz I forget right now.
He is getting me back in 4 weeks for results and as he said, "You're way too young to be tired all the time..you've been through the wars, let's make sure you are at least 80% well!"
So there you go..finally someone is actually listening to me. After 10 months on various doses of thyroxine it could be something else entirely wrong with me...I just KNEW I wasn't the full dollar!
Just pays to kick some butt sometimes..I know he will be kicking my surgeon's for never referring me to "someone who is the engine guy, not the panel beater" Hee hee I do like him!
