side effects in children after medication for hypotyroidism

My grandchild is 12.  His mama suffers from Hashimoto. She was tested with 70.  My grandchild's tests show 5.2.  Doctor advised the boy must take pills for the rest of his life. Is it dangerous.  Does it have side effects.  I am very worried because in addition, he child was also diagnosed with another autoimune disease from his father, HLAB, which cause his father AS,  Grateful for any advise,  Thank you

He is + for the HLBA27 gene factor?  I am sorry .... if you go to the arthritis community the Community Leader is wonderful and has AS herself I believe.  Between both boards we are here for you.  Please be sure he has a good pedi rheumatolgogist and ped endocrinologist working with him .. there also is a ped endo community with a dr here at MedHelp.

Some people gets headaches on certain thyroid medications (generic vs brand) but as for as really being harmful, it is not. It is replacing a hormone that the body needs and is not manufacturing properly. My daughter has been on Synthroid and Cytomel since she was eight. Two pills for the rest of her life.
