Hair Loss VS. Hashimoto VS. Synthroid

i started Synthroid last Sept, starting on 25mcg, and on 75mcg now. i just had a blood test and still waiting for the result. I am not sure if i am under-dosed, or over-dosed, but i know it's not right. the most frightening part is that i am shedding badly, more than 200 hairs everyday. I was reading on internet, and i am very confused by the information i am getting: it seems like if you are hyper, you can loss your hair, if you are hypo, you can loss your hair, or even Synthroid can have this side-effect! i can understand being hyper or hypo to be related with hair loss, but does Synthroid cause that too? even if you are at the right dose?

not sure, if anybody had or having the similar situation. any advice you can give is highly appreciated.

PS. is anybody from Upland. California area? can you recommend a good endo?

Yes synthroid can cause hair loss as well as both being hypo and hyper. I was on synthroid for only a month when my doc took me off my armour and I started losing my hair really bad. I continued with the hair loss for several months even after stopping the synthroid and going back on the armour as it took a little while to get it out of my system. If you had hypo symtoms before you started on the synthroid and did not lose any hair it is most likely cause by either the synthroid or you may be on too much. If you are not having any symptoms of overdose I would say it is the synthroid and you should talk to your doc about other options available. There are many brands of T4 available besides synthroid as well as some combinations of T4 and T3 or a natural choice (Armour). Sorry I don't live in CA but http://www.thyroid-info.com/topdrs/california.htm is a good resource for finding a good endocrinologist. The site is managed by patient advocate Mary Shomon. It gives info regarding the docs location as well as what other patients have to say about them so hopefully you can find one doc who is good for you.
