synthroid for thyroiditis

I am a 27 year old female dx with Thyroditis 4 months ago.  Entered the hypo phase 3 months ago.  I have been on 50mcg Synthroid for 2 months now.  My TSH is now normal.  My question is becuase I do not have the Hashimotos thyroiditis should I still be taking synthroid?  Is it bad to be on the Synthroid if I do not need it?  What is the typical length of time someone with subacute thyroiditis should be on Synthroid?  Will the being on Synthroid possibly prevent me from every making my own thyroid hormone again?  Thank you for your time.

Sometimes the subacute thyroiditis has "recovery' stage known as transitional hypothyroidism; after that the thyroid can produce the hormones at its own. 50 micrograms is low dose, therefore your doctor may try to cut it to 25 micrograms and watch your TSH.
"Not all patients with subacute thyroiditis experience all phases of these
alterations in thyroid function.

    * The duration of the illness often is 6 weeks but may be 3 to 6 months.
    * The inflammatory process may migrate from one area of the thyroid to
another and often crosses between the two lobes (“creeping thyroiditis”).

* The hypothyroid phase of subacute thyroiditis is usually transient and is
often asymptomatic; therefore, thyroid hormone replacement frequently is not
necessary.
    * Additionally, the increased TSH secretion at this time may be important
in the recovery of thyroid gland function; consequently, there may be a
relative contraindication to thyroid hormone treatment unless the patient is
clearly symptomatic.

Your thyroid is not secreting enough hormone that is why you are taking Synthroid, Your TSH is only the chemical signal your pitiutary gland sends to your thyroid and only a sort of guidline, you would have to post your other labs like T3 and T4 or free T3, these are the actual hormone levels, although you would have to be off the meds for 6 weeks then re-tested to determine if your thyroid was working as it should. That decision would be up to your Dr. If you want to Post your all your labs here, with a header that say "Help with lab results" Members will explain them to you and answer any questions you may have if possible.
