Currently recommended reference range for TSH is 0.3-3.0, so yours is a little high at 8.6, indicating hypothyroidism. However, TSH is a poor diagnostic of thyroid dysfunction, so you need further testing at this point. Free T3 and free T4 are the actual thyroid hormones and much more important than TSH.
Do you have hypo symptoms?
I wouldn't be comfortable with that TSH level with my condition. We find that taking the TSH and also knowing the Free T3 and Free T4 levels is important to know if those levels are bad so we can get them back to normal to feel better.
