I had the RAI treatment last year but the last scan still showed cancer in my neck area. I am getting ready for my next treatment. This time he had me start the low-iodine last week and stop taking my Synthroid for 2 weeks.. So Monday coming (the 13th).. I am going in to get shot #1 of the Thyrogen then Tuesday shot #2 then am I understanding correctly? I get the RAI (I131) pills again skip a day then get my scan of Friday? I'm confused as to why I had to stop taking my Synthroid and get on this stupid low-iodine diet again if I'm getting the Thryrogen shots. Can someone help me understand all this?

Low iodine was necessary so the the RAI can be taken up properly for imaging. Going off synthroid basically starves any remaining thyroid cells, again, to help uptakeof RAI. Thyrogen helps with the "hypo" symptoms while you're off synthroid.

Also, could you mentioned which hospital you were receiving thyrogen from. I'm trying desperately to help my wife find Thyrogen so she doesn't have to do total hormone withdrawl.
