New here ....looking for help with US results

Hello,

I've been reading here for a week or so - and finally got brave enough to post :).  While at my OB/GYN for my yearly exam, she noticed that my thyroid felt enlarged. She ordered blood tests and an US. Blood tests came back normal ( I have not read the report), but the US did not.

The US tech wrote " inhomogeneous thyroid 2.26 x .60 x .84 cm. , increased blood flow to area".  The  radiology report says, "the  RT lobe measures 5.0 x 1.5 x 1.6 , while the LT lobe measures 5.2 x 1.5 x 1.7 in length transverse dimension respectively with mild heterogeneous echogenicity about the thyroid gland suggestive of multinodular goiter. There is a hypoechoic area within the mid portion of left lobe measuring 2.3 cm in greatest dimension. Nuclear scan recommended."

I took the results to my General Surgeon, who had previously treated me for an ulcer .... he said to see a thyroid specialist. I have an Endo appt. on  Feb 4.

I guess my question is : What does all of this mean? I have searched online and that just scared me!

I sincerely appreciate any help and apologize for the long post.

Thanks,
Michelle

Hello and thank you for the welcome! This place is GREAT! I have spent so much time here reading  and it has been very helpful.

I tried the Dr. forum - but I keep getting a message that the number of questions for the day has been reached. I'll try again early tomorrow.

I think you are correct about the biopsy. When I was at the appt. with my General Surgeon he said he felt the Endo would skip the Nuclear Scan for now , and go right to a FNA. That made me even more nervous.

I will definitely post after my appt. and give an update. Hopefully, he will tell me something just from the US / radiology report. The waiting is driving me nuts.

I know I am not the only person in this predicament, my heart goes out to everyone here. This is not fun !

Thank you for you help,
Michelle

Hi Michelle,
Try posting your question in the Ask the doctor section, Dr. Lupo answers questions pertaining to lab results etc.....  He explained my CT scan.

Try not to be scared or worried.  I remember the first time, my enlarged thyroid was discovered, I was shocked.  But the more I learned, about my thyroid condition and read, post at the forum, asked alof questions, it's now become a part of my life, not a threat.  It's not nearly as bad, as I percieved.

Do your best to relax, visit your Endo on the 4th, till then you will alway's find comfort & support at the forums.

Good luck to you !
