1-1/2 years ago, as an incidental finding to a neck scan, i was found to have a 12 mm nodule in right thyroid lobe. TSH and T4 were normal. On follow up ultrasound 1 year later, the nodule had increased to 1.4 x 1.2 x 1.2 cm. Also found in the left thyroid was a nodule measuring 1.2 x 1.2 x 1.1 cm, and a smaller 8 mm solid nodule. TSH was now 15.4. I was put on levothyroxine 25 mcg at that time. 1 month later, TSH 9.4. started on 50 mcg of levo. Since starting levothyroxine, i have had continuous pain in my neck, and have gained a few pounds. I have also noticed more fatigue.
2 weeks ago, i had labs checked after I requested additional thyroid testing. TSH is back in normal range, but microsomal TPO antibody was greater than 1,000, suggesting Hashimoto's thyroiditis. My neck is hurting more than ever. Radiology evidently does not think these nodules warrant a biopsy. I have a real concern as to whether these nodules are actually benign or not. They have continued to grow in size. There is no endocrinologist where I live. I am debating whether to make the 6 hour trip to see an endocrinologist, or to make an appt. to see an ENT doctor where I live. I want to have these biopsied so i do not have to worry about possibility of cancer. As i have not lost any weight that I gained and have only starting having neck pain/fatigue after starting levothyroxine, I am really hoping there is some other alternative medication that could possibly help me.
