My daughter was born without a gland and her tsh was elevated but her t4 was in range at her newborn screening. Her pedi.thought she was not in danger so was in no hurry to send us to an endo. However, I was not okay with that, so we went outside his network and saw one the next day. To make a long story short, she began Synthroid at 3 weeks. Never had to raise it from those first few initial doses, so the opinion was that she just had a sluggish gland that would kick into gear. However, when I quit nursing at 1 year she required many increases in meds. Later after scans and ultrasounds, they diagnosed her with having no gland at all! There must have been lots of hormone that I was passng through to her via mother's milk! Keep this in mind if your wife is nursing even though the doctors will beg to differ! I would take no chances and go to a pediatric endo. if you are worried or have any doubts. It is too crucial when it is a newborn with a rapidly developing brain that is dependent on the correct amount of thyroid hormone!
His numbers look ok in my opinion. However, I am not a doctor.
Is your wife on synthroid?? Was she when she was in her third trimester??
TSH hormone made by mommy will not pass through to the placenta. However, medicines to replace the thyroid hormone do. Especially in the third trimester. This can cause newborns to become hyperthyroid (1 in about 70).
I would have him checked in about 3 weeks. I have three children and took synthriod with 2 of them. They are all wonderfull balls of energy.
your baby's results look fine. monitoring in 3 months to make sure all still fine, maybe.... then if still fine can monitor if have a reason. Talk to your son's doctor so you an be reassured and guided.
Your baby should have his antibodies tested too.
