Barb gave you the right answers. You need to get the right thyroid testing done and get back on thyroid meds, period.
What area are you located in?
Have you tried a certified herbalist/acupuncture? I started on herbs and my herbalist gave me a blend that really helped especially with the anxiety/mood swings. As far as the hunger goes, just try to make smart choices. I crave sugar and give to the cravings but I don't go over board. I try to eat a lot of fruits and veggies.
I don't mean to sound pessimistic, but if you quit taking med because you ran out of refills, you need to find a doctor, get your FT3, FT4 and TSH tested and get back on med asap. There is nothing you buy OTC that will eliminate your hypothyroidism, and until your thyroid levels are stable, it's unlikely that you will be able to lose much weight.
I'm sure you body "does" feel like its breaking down; and you will only make yourself sicker by waiting.
