thyroid uptake and scan results pls help

Hi Everyone,

I had a thyroid uptake and scan yesterday and today. My dr. called and told me that the uptake showed I am hypothyroid (but we already knew that). The scan results he said showed that they basically nothing, Apparently my thyroid didn't absorb the dye enough for them to get pictures of it. From what I understand that means my entire thyroid is not working at all or is cold? Is this a good sign if nothing lit up. Can someone explain what that means?

I had an ultrasound a few months ago and it showed a very small thyroid with a very small nodule on one side. The scan couldn't see anything.

Thanks so much for any insight you can give me. I am seeing an endo at the end of the month and really don't want to wait that long to understand this. I also started back on my synthroid today and am wondering how long until I am not as hypo feeling as I am now. Thanks again..

I spoke to the techs at neclear med who ran my tests. He explained that my thryroid is actually not working at all and that is why they couldn't get any pictures. He said this combined with all my other tests would tell the endo something. He said with nothing showing up that means there are no hot spots and that the thyroid is all cold. I know I have a small nodule and he said that didn't show up on the scan so I am assuming this is a good thing. I'm really not sure. I was hoping someone here would know something about the scans to answer our questions.

I  am way foggy, can't sleep, heart pal. because my thyroid is big so is my neck. I feel like I am on edge all the time. My blood test show that I have no thyroid function at all. but my body acts like I am hyper....I can't wait till I can get the results and find out what is going on and get back on my meds. This is just awful. My sister works in the X-ray department so I knew the tec who did the uptake scan and he was the one who told me that my thyroid didn't up take anything. If it wasn't for that I would not know anything except that they want to redo it. But he wouldn't tell me anything but that. He said my Dr. will have to talk to me but it did go right along with my blood work. I feel like all I do is give blood and more blood.  I hope you can endure the wait better then I do.

Thanks for answering yetta, I didn't get any numbers or anything from my dr. He is clueless and told me that the endo will have to explain it to me. I don't see her until the 22nd. I was off my med for a  little over a month. I am extremely hypo right now but the only problems I am really having are a bit foggy, big time constipation, cold and I feel like my neck is thick. do you have any of those symptoms. I feel for you if you have been off longer than that. I couldn't wait for this to be over so I could go back on my med. I am hopeful that in a couple of weeks I will level out a bit. I wish you much luck as well and I will let you know if I find out anything at all. Dawn

I had the same up take result. I was a uptake level 1 normal is between 7 and 15. I still haven't gotten any answers. except that they wanted to redo the scan. I have no idea what it means so please keep me informed on what you find out and I will let you know what I find. mine won't be for another week. How long were you off your meds? they told me that you need to be off for at least 3 weeks. this time around will be 1 1/2 months. they better find out what is going on this time.  my US showed that my thyroid was very large 5.1 x 5.7. best of luck to you
