Concerned ):

I am a 42 yr old women who recently went to my doctor because I have not been feeling well (crushing fatigue, chronic constipation, cold hands/feet, confusion). A few years back, I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis & Epstein Barr. My latest test results (12/07) shows anemia, elevated antibodies and my thyroid ultrasound shows a newly developed nodule on the right side. My doctor's advise is to just have me go along and wait until my thyroid "blows-out." Furthemore, the nurse gave me all my results (via voice mail-nodule shouldn't be cancerous but get another ultrasound within 3 months/take iron & vitamin C) but I called the office back and requested a follow-up office visit. I'm going next week...PLEASE does anyone have any advice or suggestions concerning my health issues?

I agree with everyone else's advice.  I'd also suggest getting a printed copy of the ultrasound and lab results for two reasons:  so you can take the results to a good endocrinologist and so you can post them here.  Where we are no endocrinologists we have been around the thyroid block once or twice and may be able to give you some insight and questions to ask your new endo.

You should have had blood tests done and put on meds according to your results.  You surely sound hypothyroid and need to monitored immediately.  Get another doctor if this one is ignoring your symptoms.  Waiting til your thyroid "blows out" is a ridiculous answer from a doctor.  See an endocrinologist who specializes in the thyroid and hurry.  If you can post your latest results, it would be helpful.

Demand a referal to an endocranologist!  I could be living your life.  The only difference is that my nurse practitioner sent me to an endo right away.  I had my thyroid removed on December 26.  We will see what the future holds but today, I think it was the right decision.
