Heartburn when hypo

Currently I am quite hypo...most recent bloods were taken november 22nd and results are:
TSH - 8.3 (0.40 - 3.50)
FT3 - 4.2 (3.9 - 6.8)
FT4 - 9.3 (10.0 - 23.0)

My levels dropped so low as they dropped very quickly after RAI (oct 8th).  Meds have been started and am currently on a low dose (25mcg mon, tues, wed, fri and 12.5mcg every other day).  Endo is planning on increasing to 25mcg 7 days a week next week.

So, now to my question, can heartburn be a hypo symptom???  I've had heartburn before, but only really felt it very rarely (like, once every 6 weeks or so)...but this past week and a bit it's been every day.  The only thing that's changed is me becoming super hypo.

Can the heartburn be associated with being hypo????

It is a miserable symptom!  Oh, I agree with you there Stella!!

My endo is hoping once I increase the meds on monday it should knock my levels up enough to get rid of it.  Hoping for some improvement soon!!!

Its a miserable symptom to have and the longer its present the more damage it will cause.

I am having extensive dental issues right now from when I had it and my teeth really paid the price until I got it under control.

Yeah, I am lucky Stella, no heartburn but a violent teen son instead! I'll take the heartburn anyday over him!

Thanks for all the info stella!!
Have only just started the thyroid hormone again.  Probably waited a little too long before going for bloods (but that's my fault - not endo!!), which is why my free's are so low.  I am going for bloods again on monday and will more than likely increase then, endo hopes this will bring the FT3 and FT4 up.  He just started slowly because I am extremely sensitive to ANY medication/hormones.

Will spend some time looking at older posts on the topic.  :)

You're lucky Red - That was one of THE most miserable issues I had when I was so ill.

Its awful. I had from ingestion to burning tongue!! - and it lasted for months. I had no smell or taste due to all the damage this caused.

And - ironically Nat. You also under went RAI recently and that does have some connections to why hypos may get this horrible symptom.

Here's the tips on how to try and fix it.

You may want to seach here on medhelp for other posts I wrote on specifically in detail as to what all is happening in the body to make GERD or AI present

1. Ph levels are seriously off in the body causing potent acid.. due to RAI -

a. Fix = regulate the PH back to 7 - normal with apple cider vinegar and other PH stabilizers

2. Digestion has slowed causing back up

b. Fix - your enzyme counts are low due to hypothyroidism and toxic levels from the RAI causing this. Acidophillus is commonly used to speed and digest better in the track to eliminate the stored waste.

3. Your Free T3 level is way too low on thyroid hormone.

c. Fix - Consider re-evaluating your  FT3 and FT4 labs and also consider a T3 medication w/ your T4 meds.

I never get heart burn being hypo, then again I never get it being hyper either! Only time I had it really REALLY bad was being pregnant. Not that I am saying YOU are pregnant, LOL! It's just one symptom I DON'T get when thyroididal.
Maybe lots of Mylanta might help.

Thank you both!!

My meds have just been increased as of yesterday, so hopefully my free's will come up enough to ease the heartburn feeling!!

Absolutely yes.  When I most recently got back into a hypo condition, I had horrible heartburn, even though I was taking Prilosec.    The reason for becoming hypo again was that I did not manage my transition to Armour Thyroid very well.  As soon as I started on the Armour, which of course has T3 in it and reacts fast, within two days my heartburn was gone.

"can heartburn be a hypo symptom?"--  absolutely!!

Many get that when hypo or on a med but still need more T3. I had bad reflux on T4 meds only, on combo meds (t3 and 4) I have no digestive issues.
