ok, thanks for your input... will make some bloodwork on sunday and will go with symptoms after i get the results.. my fT4 is currently at low end (12%)... fT3 at ~60% .. at 3 grain... i got worse with it.. got old hypo-symptoms back.. :/
Just to clarify-
Some people that are on thyoid med and are EXPERIENCED in symptom feel with different dose levels do ADJUST per their symptoms and lab levels. Some symptoms of hyper and hypo are very similar.
Adjusting your level from a known point is not the same as setting your level from an unknown point.
Just dosing per lab #'s only can land one in trouble as it takes weeks later to feel the thyroid med you ingest today.
Totally agree with Red and Barb. Also, in the words of a very good thyroid doctor, "the ultimate criterion for dose adjustment must always be the clinical response of the patient."
The blood tests are a guide, but ultimately, it's all about alleviating the symptoms.
Blood tests should be done prior to dosage changes, in order to make sure you're adjusting in the right direction, since some symptoms can "cross over" and apply to either hyper or hypo.
Additionally, it's good to have copies of the lab reports, as those can become the record of your illness. I write on all my tests, the med/dosage I was taking when the labs were done, and that helps me know at what levels I feel best.
I go by symptoms but I was curious as to my lab results. I wasn't surprised to see free T4 too low in the range taking Armour. I switched back to synthetic T4 and didn't need any labs for that decision!
